No More Wasted Birdseed!
The Library LadySeptember 20, 2017
I was being driven crazy by a batch of sparrows who kept spilling all the seed from one of my deck feeders onto the ground one floor below. So I did some research and happened upon the idea of a seed hoop that hangs below your bird feeder. The site I was on offered them for about $40, but of course here on Amazon I found this much more affordable hoop.
I have one of the Perky Pets feeders with the conical copper top. I simply placed off for metal hooks for the hoop on to the same hook that holds the feeder.
And that was it. The feederr has now been that way for about a week, I see small birds feeding on it regularly, but I haven't had to refill it. I've also seen some of my mourning doves sitting on the seed hoop eating whatever seed does spill down there. They are really too big to fit on the copper feeder, but they can easily sit on the hoop, so it works out beautifully. I am not worried about squirrels climbing on the hoop because the theate the feeder contains safflower seed, which the squirrels won't eat.
I have had an issue in getting the hoop correctly balanced, but what tilt occurs doesn't seem to bother the birds and the seed isn't spilling out of it.
It's really nice when there is a big simple, inexpensive solution to a simple but irritating problem.
This is a nice little product!
Couldn't be happier workds great.

I've been using it for four days now. Two years ago we had two pigeons come visit our feeder. Last year there were 40 and this year over 60. This is a small yard small neighborhood and one neighbor really is upset with them. I don't like them either and they are costing us too much in bird seed, too big and sit on the wires and roofs. I put these on my feeders so that they don't get any waste on the ground. There food is limited and they seem to be going elsewhere, I think it will answer our problem.
Not worth the money!

Poor design, excess seed spills over due to lack of weight. Tried putting a weight in the center to stabilize and help keep the seed from shifting to the outer edge in a pile where it would spill over. Netting shreds. Constant clean up.
Finally threw it away after having just a short time. There are better designs. Do your research!
Great seed catcher!

Ordered this for one of my bird feeders since it is not easy to stop wild birds from making a mess when they like only some of the feed you offer them.
The net is actually pretty sturdy and holds a good amount of seed that falls from the bird seeder. Some birds prefer actually eating from the net which acts like a secondary bird feeder
The only reason I have taken out a star is I wish there was a clamp\clip mechanism instead of just hooks. Sometimes large birds sit and hook just comes off when they fly away.
Good, but...

I very much like the idea of this. It worked pretty well...until the squirrels chewed the cords in two. I "adapted" this product by replacing the broken cords with small gauge chains instead. This serves to give the hoop more weight, and hopefully will keep the squirrels from chewing through!
