When this item arrived, we took it to the shop to have it set up for use. The amount of work to be done totalled just over $300, and this is a much respected family business in our area. Much of it was going to have to be shaved down to have the proper depth between the strings and fingerboard. All the pegs were going to have to be redone as well as the holes. There were several other things (I am not familiar with stringed instruments, so I can't explain it all). We ended up renting with 100% of the first years rental going to the purchase. As the man at the shop said, these are mass produced and stored in crates in a non-climate controlled area.

Great cello for the price

I purchased this cello for my 10 year old son. It is a beautiful cello for the price and just right for a new student. I am planning to get a new bow however. The one that comes in the set is okay, but not great. The case is very good as well and protects the instrument well. The cello has a nice bright sound. I would recommend to the beginning or intermediate student.

Was nervous about what quality of instrument this would be for the price but we love it. Took it in to have the bridge assembled and have it tuned, etc and the guy said he was amazed that we could get such quality at such a low price. I don't know much about cello's but it seems to have a beautiful sound.
