Assembly instructions are trash. Couple parts are flimsy. Overall a good value package.
Porter L✓ Verified Purchase•July 28, 2023
Good product, effective once assembly is completed. Assembly took me about 4 hours. The machine is solid and stable for up to the rated weight (about 200lbs).
Instructions are garbage because none of the screws or their sizes are labeled. You have to measure them yourself. I've attached a picture where I've marked the sizes on them. The 7 equates to size "70", the 6 1/2 equates to size "65", etc. They expect you to figure this out on your own and it's not intuitive in the least. I recommend labeling your screws/bolts package, and pulling them out one at a time as needed.
Also, once assembly is completed, get some black tape and wrap the ball stopper on the cable that comes out near the floor. If during use it gets caught under the wheel, it starts shaving down the wheel. If you wrap the ball fixture (two metal discs surrounding a ball), then neither disc will come free and jam the wheel. You'll thank me later.

I made the right choice!!

I spent several months researching which lat machine I was going to buy. I eventually narrowed it down to two...Body Solids Pro Lat machine also an excellent choice and Valors cb-12. Valors cb-12 came with added features I liked as well as a killer price tag that couldn't be beat. Mine arrived with all the parts and a decent assembly manual. Iv'e constructed several pieces of workout equipement over the years so for me it was pretty
straight forward. Iv'e developed a way of doing it that makes it simple. First, with the nuts and bolts still in the package I number them based on the
numbers given in the manual. If bolt #1 is four in number, I draw a 1 next to them on the package with a marker. Do that for all the parts. The bigger
parts can have a piece of tape put on them and their number written on the tape. This is done after laying all of the larger parts out in front of you.
Next always build from the base up and only finger tightend the screws. You should have your machine completely assembled before any tightening
is done with a wrench. Lastly, every part I assemble I color code it in the manual. Color in the section with a colored marker as you make
progress. The Valor cb-12 is a very well made, solid and smooth operating machine. The machine looks as good as it
operates. I'm glad I picked this one over the others.
Update: After working out with the CB-12 for a few days I am totally happy with this lat pulldown machine. I first thought it would be too small or that the travel of the weight plates up and down would be too short but none of that turned out to be true. I'm 6 feet tall at 230 pounds with relatively long arms. I'm able to get all of the stretch at the top I need with some to spare. I actually have to lift up off the seat to reach the lat bar above and thats with seat in the middle position. I still have room to move the seat up or down if I choose to. One added feature nobody has mentioned is that the ab crunch feature can double for overhead triceps extentions when sitting with your back to the machine. I am very happy with the Valor CB-12. I believe you will be too.

I cannot say enough about the value of this machine!! For reference, you can jump up in cost and spend 3x to 4x as much for a used true commercial Lat pulldown with a 400lb stack, but lose the mid and lower pulley unless you find a Paramount Lat/Row combo used typically running 5x or more than the Valor. You also loose the ability to easily move the Valor around your gym space when unloaded. One important thing to note is the # of pulleys. As you add pulleys to a machine, you must add more weight to offset and the Valor has the same setup as many commercial Lat Pulldowns. A search of youtube will give you about 100 different exercises you can do with this machine. As far as assembly, if you do not have a ratchet/wrench set I highly suggest picking up a small set for $30 as it only took me about 45 minutes to assemble with a ratchet and wrench. The included lat bar is fine, but I would recommend the MaxGrip close grip and medium grip bars since typical lat bars place a lot of pressure on your fingers (and fore arms and biceps) to hold onto the bar whereas the maxgrip allows you to clamp on in a way that does not put as much force on your fingers and will put all the weight on your lats for an even better workout. The cables are smooth and if you are looking for a lat machine with a seated row, this is hands down the one for the price!!
Small Footprint and well buit--Exactly what I need for my home gym
Michael in Las Vegas, NV✓ Verified Purchase•June 2, 2023
I needed a lat pulldown machine that would also allow me to do various rowing exercises yet was compact enough to fit in my home gym. While I was not looking for pro gym quality, I did want something very well built as I work out six days a week religiously. With respect to this machine, I needed something that would stand up to regular use twice per week. While I have only had the machine for a week now I can tell that it is exactly what I was looking for. The design is very good and the machine is well made. In summary, I would point out the following pros and cons of this machine:
Pros:
-It has a very small footprint yet a good range of motion (cable length) relative to its size. This was important to me as my home gym is simply a spare bedroom in the house (10' x 12') and many of these machines are like TVs at Costco--they look small in the store, but when you get them home they are huge and dominate the room.
-The action is smooth for the type of machine (plate weights). Not as smooth as a stack machine in the gym, but very good for what it is.
-It is light enough for one person to move around, yet if you store enough weight on the include rack below (a very nice feature by the way), it will not move around while being used.
-The folding foot plate for doing rows is very well designed and a nice touch. Many of the other machines forget this feature and it makes it infinitely more difficult to do rowing exercises.
-The seat and back pad are thick and well made.
-Finish is good and the machine is very attractive. While it does not affect how the machine works, it is a plus that it looks so nice.
-The build quality is good and the frame is solid; I can't see any part of the machine ever wearing out or breaking, with the exception of possibly one of the two cables (I guess it's possible but I doubt it).
-It comes with both a lat pull down bar as well as a short bar for doing rows and other arm/back exercises.
-The Valor Fitness website contains not only a video showing all of the features of the machine, but also a detailed diagram complete with measurements so a potential buyer can make sure the machine will fit well in their intended space. Perhaps a small issue to some, but I thought it was a big deal since I did not want to order something on line and then not have it fit in the space I had.
-Finally, as noted above, it has a storage bar on the bottom back frame rail to place the weight plates on when not in use. This really helps as it not only stabilizes the machine, it makes weight changes very fast for this type of machine.
Cons:
-It might be a bit small for some users. I am 5'7" and the machine is perfect for me. However, I can see really huge guys having an issue with the size. I believe one of the previous reviewers commented on this fact, sating that he thought the machine was made for "midgets" or something like that. While I don't agree with that, I am not 6'4" and 280 pounds either...
-If you want to do pull downs behind the back (I never do), this is not the machine for you. The previous reviewer is quite right on this issue--if you try to do this you will plant your face right into the back pad. This is the only single defect that I have found in the design of this machine. However, if it were large enough to do this, it would have probably been too large for my room. Again, I do all of my pull ups in the front so I would never have even noticed this issue had I not read the previous reviewers comments.
-My machine arrived with a defective pulley (it was missing an inner bearing part). However, on the up side I made a quick call to the company and they had the part to me within three days. The guy who answered the phone was not only very nice, he was also the owner of the company. I give them 5 stars for customer support. Not their fault really that some machine in China put a bearing together wrong and they got me a replacement part in days with no questions asked.
-The seat pad is somewhat small and close to the machine. I also agree with the previous reviewer that this part of the machine should be about six inches (or so) longer to accommodate larger users. Again, it is not a problem for me and I doubt it would be noticed by anyone 6' tall or shorter, but for the really big guys this might be an issue.
Overall--great machine. I highly recommend especially considering the price, quality, customer support and quick delivery (four days for me).
UPDATE (7/18/2014): I have now used this machine continuously for about 2 1/2 years and have not experienced a single problem--it is holding up great. I work out for about 1 1/2 hours every morning, six days per week and this thing has handled everything I have thrown at it (I use it two to three times per week depending upon the current routine). Plain and simple, it is just a great machine.
