Customer Service Severely Lacking
lkh✓ Verified PurchaseJuly 22, 2017
I want to give this product five stars - it certainly was awesome while it was working - but ours is no longer working and Customer Service has NOT been good.

We purchased our unit in April 2015. Early 2017, the flap lock stopped releasing when our cats entered the "tunnel." We taped the latch down as a temporary fix and filled out a troubleshooting survey with SureFlap. The survey came back that the catch cam needed replacing and they would send us one. That was March 3, 2017.

On March 24th 2017, having heard nothing and received nothing, we sent an email asking for an update. On March 28th, Amal (in the UK?) asked us if we'd gotten the part. March 30th, we said no, nothing had arrived. March 31st, he replied and copied "Natalie in the US" to send us the catch cam again. And....that's the last we've heard from anyone. Natalie never replied to Amal's email and we have received nothing.

We would have happily paid for the replacement part, but someone has to freaking communicate with us and/or send the dang thing. Our latch is still taped down so that any animal in the neighborhood could come in if they wanted. With this functionality, we could have just gotten a plain cat door for $15, instead of the $115 we paid in 2015.

ETA: Before it stopped working entirely, for several months it would burn through new batteries in two to three weeks. We'd vigorously clean the outside near the sensors and it would get better a little bit and then revert to terrible again. So if that's happening to you now, you might be headed for a crash.

NOTE,- YOU HAVE TO HAVE YOUR CATS MICROCHIPPED FOR THIS TO WORK AS IT PAIRS WITH THEIR CHIPS, NO NEED FOR NUMBERS [ IF YOU CANT FIND THEM ] , JUST THE CATS WILL SET IT FOR YOU. This is my third one as I have moved house a few times and left them behind, and all the people who moved in had cats so it was a good selling point, none of the buyers knew that they existed ! .........They are fantastic and work like a dream.....my cats come in and out but the neighbors cat can't figure why he can't come in too....funny ! So easy to install....you need to cut the shape out of your door first....if you follow instructions , you will be fine. Batteries last for a about a year for 2 cats coming and going.Awesome product

This works so well. My cats never have a problem with it. It took about 2.5 weeks for all three of my cats to figure it out and now they love it.

We put it on our bedroom door because we live in a house with 5 cats but only 3 of them are ours. I keep the door closed to keep the other cats out of my room. I was sick of having to get up to let my cats in/out in the middle of the night. This was the perfect solution.

The only downside is that both the locking mechanism and the door flap are kind of loud when my cats go through it which isn't ideal for a bedroom. But it's definitely better than having to get out of bed and open the door.

Love this cat door and the control I have with allowing my cat out. I set it with the arrow down at sunset (so he cannot exit again) so that he isn't out all night. This makes it easier for me to allow my cat out without having to open and close the backdoor repeatedly. Easy to set up and use. Used a jigsaw with a blade made for cutting metal to cut the hole in my garage door. After that, easy to install. I used the Ideal Pet Products 6.25"x6.25" Lockable cat door to allow him to get into the garage. Perfect combo.
No more strange cats in our house

While the neighbor's cats occasionally bat at the new cat door in annoyance, they can no longer get in to eat our cat's food. Installation was a snap, and registering our cat's microchip was simple. Took her a while to figure out how to use it, since she could no longer run face-first into it at full speed (as she liked to do with the old flap), but after a couple of head-conks, she figured it out. Overall, we've been extremely pleased (even if the neighbor's cats do sometimes still get in through open windows).

One caveat: this is a very small door. Our cat weighs 8 pounds, and it's fine for her, but cats on the medium to large end are likely to be unhappy.
