I absolutely recommend these emergency lights. We are seniors, elderly to be truthful, and I first purchased 4 of these flashlights two years ago. We have regular nightlights throughout our house but it is becoming more difficult to purchase regular old style nightlights. If there is an electrical outage these lights go on even if no need to use. Besides they are great flashlights to have whenever needed. I gave one to my daughter who keeps it by the door to her basement steps. She loves it. I now intend to purchase additional units and save money by not having to use regular nightlights that go out when the electricity goes out. Maybe they get dimmer over the years, but we cannot notice the difference if they do get dimmer.
Handy Emergency Gadget. One for Each Floor

Fortunately I haven't had to use these in an emergency yet. I have tested them in outlets, though, and they're great!
I was worried I would be stuck with a perpetual nightlight when I didn't want it, but the nightlight feature can be switched off. Instead, the light at the bottom will come on in the event of a power outage, and then when removed from the outlet it can be used as a flashlight - a fairly bright one, at that. I wouldn't want this to be my primary flashlight or only light source, but it's helpful in finding a path to the other emergency supplies. Normally I'd stumble in the dark searching for the flashlight or my phone, but this one guides the way. Quite the handy little emergency gadget!
I bought two and intend to keep on on each floor. If your halls don't have outlets (like mine), try putting these in centralized or easily accessible areas like bedrooms or the kitchen.

Great little compact blackout light. I got some of these as stocking stuffers for some older aunts, and selected these because they're more inexpensive than many. I really preferred the style that have a little cradle that plug into the wall such that the light actually sits on the cradle rather than having its own fold-out plug to plug directly into the outlet. Having gotten these, though, I tried one and loved it! It's a nice, compact light that feels good in my hand. It's not a chore to plug it into the wall or remove it. I am very glad that I tried these.
Nice little emergency lights.

These are pretty neat, simple little devices that actually work as advertised. Use them in outlets near the floor. (Will update for durability over time). I live in an area that experiences relatively frequent power failures, and have used them twice already since purchase. Bright enough to avoid bumping into walls and such and didn't appear to lose any brightness for the 3.5 hours of blackout in one of the incidents. We have a few other types that have lasted for 10 years plus with about the same lighting ability, but are more bulky...and can no longer find them on the market. Will use these, as it stands now to replace the remaining "old" ones as they fail. They don't take up/cover up the other outlets as much as the ones we have.
Use one of them as a nightlight for the guest bathroom...so far so good.

These work very well as nightlights and emergency lights. Just plug them in and they will automatically turn on when it is dark. They charge up and can then be used as flashlights for up to 4 hours if the power goes out.
The reason for the one-star reduction is the very strong smell. For the first couple of days the whole hallway smelled very strongly and I almost returned them. It has diminished somewhat but it worries me. Not sure what the smell means and where it comes from.
Good:
Plug-in, rechargeable nightlights
Can be turned off
Emergency lighting during power outages
Reasonably priced
Not so good:
They are very bright which is good for visibility but shine into the bedroom because of the brightness. So move them somewhere where it doesn't disturb
Very strong smell
That said, it's nice to know that we will have a charged light if the power should go out. The lights have an off switch so they can be turned off when not needed. Not sure how much power it draws being plugged in but turned off.
