Will Purchase again, if I have to
K. Creek•May 20, 2016
Great printer for such a cheap price!! I love this printer. Bought it as an emergency for a car show to get things printed out and have been using it for 5 years now. I actually like this printer MORE than our expensive HP Officejet 6600. It folds up and compacts well, light weight and prints perfectly. No issues with thick paper either. I actually use it to print out our goody bags. I had feed lunch sacks through it and the printer produces professional quality print on the bags. *Type of bag does determine how well it prints.* If and when this printer dies I will be purchasing it again. I have gotten my moneys worth out of it.
cheap but doens't hold up well

This product served its purpose for the most part though I will say the cost of ink in some ways was more than the printer itself though the price was right for what I used it for.
One thing I was very disappointed with in regards to this printer though is the difficulty in putting generic ink cartridges into it. I always use generic ink with my printers and I didn't expect issues with hp printers as I knew I ran into with Lexmark printers. What happened is the generic ink when put into the printer generated an error message which stated that the ink has failed or it is not genuine ink.
Printer companies like to think that generic ink destroys printers but this has not been my experience unless it is leaking all over the place but hopefully you will catch that before putting it into a printer and do an RMA with the company that made the ink.
Having said this the other thing I would say could have been improved is the quality in the plastic especially where the paper goes. I am not sure what happened but when I had this printer in my dorm room I came back from a program one day and found the plastic piece that keeps the paper steady broken off. Now I unserstand that someone may have run into it but knowing the people that came in and out of this dormitory I know they weren't in anyway getting even about something by purposely breaking off this part of the printer but it seems to me it could have been made a little stiffer.
With all that said it was certainly a tolerable printer for the price but I wouldn't recommend this printer to be a main stay for you. The way I used it was just an emergency printer for a couple of months any more than a half a year or so would be astronomical in regards to ink replacements and you might as well by a more sturdy printer that doesn't eat ink as much and supports generic ink cartridges much better.

Ink no go and HP outsources all customer service to India
Tamine•July 9, 2014
I rarely give a one star and here are my reasons for doing so (and I am not racist against Indians. Just mentioning that customer service cross countries and cross cultures is DIFFICULT):
I bought this printer because of the seemingly simple function of a printer. That's all I wanted. Something to print documents. After the first 50 pages or so I ran out of ink. OK. Got more ink. Didn't work. Bought more ink. Still didn't work. Error sign noting wrong cartridges even though I had the right ones listed.
Finally called HP customer service. Spent almost 3 hours on the phone (and $300 for help) with someone who sounded like he was from India (and the back ground noise made me think of "Slum dog millionaire." He was very nice, but my printer issue didn't get fixed. He gave me the ink numbers I already had, told me my previous cartridges were corrupt, and to try again. So. I go, get more ink. And. Nothing.
Call into HP again. After another 2 hours on the phone and talking to three other people (all with Indian accents), I am told they will send me a new printer if I can prove I bought the printer this year.
Sent them an Amazon confirmation e-mail that is my only receipt for the printer..... And. Now they have declared that I don't have enough proof of purchase.
I mention these things because, my printer - brand new - does not work. And the company has sent me through continual loop holes. I would be extremely wary about buying anything from HP at all because apparently, all their services are overseas and those people have to follow exact criteria to give you any help.
At this point, if I was paid $10/hr, I could have just gone and worked those five hours instead of being on the phone and just bought a new printer. OK. Sorry. Last sentence of rant calculation.
Anyway - don't buy the printer. Waste of money and time.

Does not work on XP
Joshua Glazer•June 14, 2014
I spent three (3) hours+ setting up this printer for Windows XP, SP3.
The install disc would not work because of a motherboard/usb driver that was not working correctly. Not sure if it was my pc problem or their software. Doesn't matter - most printers can be installed fine on this machine, which I keep in fine shape.
I called HP support, and the off-shore support worker went through the same steps that I did. He then solved the install problem (kind of) by installing the printer as a deskjet 990c model printer manually.
Unfortunately, the install new hardware wizard came up when I rebooted. I canceled out of it, rebooted again, and the found new hardware wizard came up again.
This time I went through the same steps as the HP support worker, installing the printer manully as an HP 990c Deskjet. This made the printer work on that 990c driver. So I can print black/color, but none of the software suite is available from the install disc. I would not have used any of that software, but essentially this printer was not installable on my machine. We found a work around, but I am not satisfied with it. Luckily, all I need is a black/color deskjet printer, so I should be ok.
But, this printer did not install correctly and is barely working on my XP SP3 machine. Get a better model!
UPDATE 6-23-12: After some thought My best guess is that although the printer says XP compatible on the box, it is not actually XP compatible. And that's because the printer uses hardware drivers that did not exist when XP machines were common. Now all new machines have Windows 7, 8 or higher. So technically, you could take one of those new machines, somehow put XP on it, and the printer would install, because the CPU motherboard has the newest hardware and drivers.
However, to say this printer is XP compatible is pretty much a lie, I believe. I don't think there is an XP machine out there that could install this printer - it uses newer drivers. Don't buy for XP. Period.

A post Dell senior
Kindle Customer•April 26, 2014
Well I received new HP Deskjet Printer.....to suit my Telekin Computer which I love.....I'm in year two of downgrading the amount of computer and printing capabilities I need.
Nevertheless, on this recent purchase, I spent several days attempting to install my new HP Printer with the ink cartridges.............without any success.............................Horror!!!!!!!!!..................Depression..........!!!!!!!!!.............My brain is totally shot.......if I can't even handle this................
Today, I finally conceded defeat and call Telikin Support (I LOVE TELIKIN for seniors even if they have some experience).................and a lovely man spent about 20 minutes trying everything he could do to get my printer working to produce a test page.
Finally he suggested opening the brand new packaged ink that I had also purchased from Amazon............The ink I was using was the freebie from HP with whom I am disappointed at this moment.
Once installed, the fresh ink was clearly recognized by the Telikin and ready and willing to print a test sheet. SUCCESS!!!!!!!!!!!!
In conclusion.........HP cheaped out on the tag along ink cartridges I suspect.......because they didn't work...........The entire set up drove me crazy for several.......and I experienced the same kind of frustration I had with state of the art dell computers years ago.......
Sooooo buyer beware, particularly seniors who are computer phobic...........Purchase fresh ink if you are purchasing this printer and if there are problems like the computer registering 0% ink during setup.....suck it up and use the good ink. Good luck.
