Some reviews said they weren't sharp. Mine were very sharp. You remove the knob at the end, it doesn't screw but it pulls straight out with a firm tug- and it reveals a very pointed tip it can pierce anything. The thin pin can bend, but when pushed straight through a hat that shouldn't be a problem. They send you a dozen of them so you have spares if one breaks or gets lost. I think they're going to work when I wear a hat with a bun to keep the hat on.

These work well for poking through my straw hat, but I am perplexed why the end caps have a hole in them so the sharp end can poke out, even when wearing the protective cap.

Using for craft project, worked great

So many of these reviews are truly indicative of how rare "common" sense is now. These hat pins have no issues. Pic #1: the whole pin, my hand for size. Pic #2: ðŸ'„ Yes... there is a blunt end. This is where your decoration goes. Pic #3: 😲 What's this?!? It's called a protective cap! Pic #4: OMG WHAT DEVILRY IS THIS?!? THE CAP... IT... IT COMES... OFF!!!! IT'S SHARP UNDER THERE!!!! Why yes. Yes I am a queen of sarcasm who expects people to use the brain God gave them. In other news, these are exactly as expected. One end with a bead stop for decorating, one SHARP end with a cap so you don't poke out someone else's eye while wearing it. Firm enough to push through a hat and hair, flexible enough to shape a bit if wanted to follow the shape of your head. 5* quality item, a bunch of 1* quality reviews. Ignore them.

I used 11 but had to throw out one. Nothing at the end on this one to stop the beads. Tried many ways to stopper the end. I ended up throwing the one out. But the rest were good!
