Great electric kettle, fast and easy to use. Two thumbs up!

This is an excellent electric kettle. My mother is seventy-five years old, and the ease of use has made this her favorite kettle. There is only one button, and once you have the water in, press the button, a bright blue light comes up, then it turns itself off automatically once the water comes to a full boil, and the blue light is off. It's that easy. This is my second one. My first one lasted for four years, then it stopped working a few days ago. When I turned the kettle upside down, I could see the metal that connected the electricity and the inside of the kettle turned rusty. So, I guess one could bring it to a repair shop to have that changed and repaired, but I decided to buy a new one for safety concern.
The best quality of all i tried

I am a big user of these kettles ever since i came home from the UK and It is the most used appliance - also, Chef's Choice brand last forever. I own two now. I have another one that is low wide and chrome and I simply love it - I've had it for 10 or more years and it is still like new. I put in a summer kitchen in my basement walkout. I bought a second by another maker. in about a year the edges started to rust - not good for boiling water - well I caved and spent the money on chefs choice - this model - and it is now a few years with no rust. I am guessing it isn't made in china and that it is simply manufactured better. I will never even try another brand - no kidding - because its not worth the wasted money and time. this kettle has just enough flair to look nice on the counter - the little toggle switch lights up to a pretty blue. My other is more of an artistic design - both I love and would purchase again.
SERIOUSLY LOVE THIS KETTLE!! Highly recommend!!

I wasn't certain about the date I purchased it until I checked but apparently it has been over a year now!! I purchased it in August 2015. I have NOT had any issues with leaking or rust or residue or smells or plastic melting or anything like that so I guess I just got a really good quality product compared to some of the other 1 star rated reviews that I saw. I love this kettle!! I use it at least once a day sometimes more depending on what I'm cooking that day. If I'm boiling eggs or making soup or any dish that requires hot water I'm heating it up in the kettle because it's so fast and living in AZ particularly in the summer it cuts down on the amount of time I have to have my gas stove on. It makes a huge huge difference! I'll be purchasing another one for work and hoping that I don't get a lemon!
i loved this kettle when i got it

i loved this kettle when i got it. my previous kettle (i think it was a braun) and the one before that lasted for years. this one lasted about 6 months or less at full function. then it began to lose the contact with the base. using only a small amount of water & twisting it on the base saved me for a while from having to use the stove. i am very disappointed as it is fairly attractive & was fast when it worked.. it does have plastic parts inside that are in contact with the water but i have never experienced a plastic smell or taste. well designed.

i have read reviews for almost all the electric kettles out there and can't find one that is reasonable, doesn't have plastic parts & is operational for longer than a year of so.
Good basic kettle with auto shutoff

I researched electric tea kettles for quite while to replace an old failing one. I wanted a basic auto shutoff kettle and was concerned about BPA. My choice came down to this one (Chef's Choice 681) and the Brevelle. I initially purchased the Brevelle, but after only a couple weeks of use the connection between the kettle and the base started failing so that I had to wiggle and rotate it to get it to start. So I returned that and purchased the Chef's Choice - have had it 5-6 months. it works well and boils a pot of water as quick as my old kettle. As with any metal kettle, the outside gets very hot and stays hot awhile after use, so keep arms away. It is a bit noisy when coming close to boil-but no more than the Brevelle or any other stainless kettle I suppose. Auto shutoff works well and it does have the boil dry protection (which I luckily have not tested). The flip up lid takes some getting used to (my previous kettle had a removable lid) and does get a little bit in the way when filling the kettle, but really not much of a bother. The fill level indicator is positioned behind the handle and is really useless since you can't see it while filling. I judge the level by looking inside the kettle. Plastic parts inside the kettle include the lid (which doesn't directly contact the water), the filter frame (which is above the water level line), and 2 plastic "nuts" holding the handle on. I use it 2-3 times a day mainly to boil water for tea. All in all, fairly happy with it.
