Horrible smell killed the deal.

The good...
This fuel tablet made a small smokeless fire. I used two 'strike anywhere' matches to ignite it.

The bad...
Unfortunately, one cube that burnt about 12 minutes, did not warm 16oz of water enough to cook dehydrated soup.
1300-Degrees? I used the Esbit CS585HA 3-Piece Lightweight Camping Cook Set for Use with Solid Fuel Tablets.
Also, I had a mystery smell going on and after blaming my dog for 2 days I discovered it was the cubes.
They stink is so bad it went through the packaging and tainted everything else in that duffle bag.
These Esbit solid fuels cubes are awesome for my needs

Packaged for use. It took a little experimentation to find the easiest way to light these solid fuel cubes - once lit they work great. I use these Esbit solid fuel cubes with a Canway wood stove. I think just 1 fuel cube should provide enough heat to bring 2 cups of water nearly to a boil (perfect for freeze-dried hot meals), but I have always added a few small twigs and thin branches. I have already ordered a second box, and will likely order more.
Worth the money.

Unlike other posters, I have yet to have issue with the Esbit fuel tabs. For economy's sake, I've been using the Coghlan tabs, but since I bought a new cookset, I thought to treat myself. A tip for those out there who hate the smell as much as I do: Use a ziplock snack when nesting the fuel tabs inside the burner. If you end up with a broken blister tab, you still don't get the smell everywhere.
Okay, but not as efficient as advertised.

These tablets are okay, but they don't put out as much heat as advertised. I live at 5300 ft, and found I needed three tablets to bring 500 ml of water to a boil when using the Esbit folding stove with the air temp at 65-70 F. No smoke, but they left just a little soot on the bottom of the cook pot. For their price and their weight I'll plan to use these mainly for emergencies, and will supplement these with dry twigs.
They are great for boiling water in a cup for any reason

I did some research on these because I go camping a lot. They are great for boiling water in a cup for any reason. They are also inexpensive and light and also compact. They don't take up a lot of space in your packs. ONLY bad thing about them, is that you can't control the temperature and how long they burn for. Usually they burn for 15 minutes, more than ample time to boil a cup of water or even 2 sometimes. But once they are done, they are done. Great for long hikes that last for a few days, since they also don't leave soot on your pots/cups and thus can be put away back into your pack. Just don't light them in your tent!

Biggest draw back is the unpredictability of the product, but that are a great product to have in a pinch. I will always pack these when I go camping just to have if needed.
