We bought a Mitsubishi Split Heater/AC a couple years ago for a small office. The handheld controller is so complex and so confusing that it was basically impossible to use. So, this solves the issue. This thermostat is like all the ones in our main house, with just the settings that we need. Installation was trickier than I expected. The YouTube videos I found for installation instructions all used a slightly different unit. But, it still is pretty straightforward as long as you take your time.

Installation was not as shown in any instructions or videos. Had to disassemble wall unit to a much greater degree than anticipated. Labeling and instructional labels were of little use. Had to hunt around for a receptacle the control cable would fit in. It does what it says it should, but its technology is incredibly dated. This should be a plug-in module that would let you control via wifi and something like NEST or ECOBEE.

I was a little hesitant to attempt the installation myself but glad I did. As warned, opening up my Mr. Slim was more difficult than installing the thermostat. The Mr. Slim cover came off okay but getting to the control board to plug in the wireless controller was a little tricky but doable. Now that its in I have a greater range of temperatures for both heat and cooling than available on the small handheld unit that came with the systems. I connected the RedLink Gateway and now have the ability to see and adjust the thermostat remotely. A very nice feature.

If when you install the batteries on the thermostat you get an error code, you need to go activate the wireless configuration. Hold the second from the left base button and UP arrow to bypass this error code and it will take you into the thermostat program settings. Look at the manual to tell you which code refers to the wireless configuration so you can Activate it. Once activated the remote can properly pair and connect with the wall unit. I don't understand why it's turned off by default when the whole point is a wireless thermostat.

Luckily, this was easy to install with help from YouTube videos. The included "instructions" should have been printed on absorbent perforated 2-ply paper so they would have at least some use. Mounting and connection of the wireless receiver were was simple (with video help) and the remote thermostat was easy to program (the included manual was helpful with this). There is still some discrepancy between the set point and the actual room temperature but is significantly more even and easy to compensate for than the included remote that was nearly as useless as the installation "instructions." Wireless remote is great but pricey. We'll see if the resultant evening out of electricity usage and programming of temperature for when we're there and when we aren't will pay for the units and in what time frame.
