Awesome in-wall safe
Jenna✓ Verified Purchase•August 28, 2017
This safe is awesome for a bedroom. It mounts in between studs with no additional framing. Just find your 16" on center studs, cut the right size hole between them, lift this in (you need an extra person!), and mark the bolt holes (3 on each side). Then you'll want to pull it out and pre-drill. We had trouble getting your drill inside the safe, so we just used a socket wrench with the pre-drilled holes. Once it's in, it's secure. Took a minute to figure out the cover for the emergency key, but then we could open it and set the code. I LOVE that if you forget your code, you can use the key and reset it without knowing the old one. Our biggest issue was finding a set of studs in our bedroom that would fit this! Remember you don't want to install it on an exterior wall!
HEAVY DUTY SAFE

Fantastic wall safe, very heavy and well made. Easy to program
Installed this safe on my own because I wanted the safe to be known only to me. The hardest part was lifting it above my chest to put it in the wall but taking it down to pre drill and lifting again was not an option so I drilled it in place. Not hard at all if your drill is not too big and the cut out is level and square. That said, since the distance from the 2x4's is 16 inches and the back of the safe to insert is 14 inches, I had to add a board inside to make up the difference but that was easy enough.
I am a great grandmother, 71 and if I can do it most anyone can :)

Good safe for the price

I installed this safe into the studs of the wall. It's made of good steel and has some weight to it. I have two complaints though. 1.. the door does not shut tightly, there is a slight give to it. To solve this problem I just put some two sided thick tape on the edge of inside safe where the bolts close. This seemed to do the job, and the door is secured tightly. 2.. the instructions state that in case you lose the keys to write down the number of safe which is located on back of emergency lock on a sticker. I looked all over the safe, and I do not see a sticker with the safe serial number. I just have to make sure the keys are placed somewhere that won't get lost or forgotten about. Overall, the safe is pretty well made for the price. I would recommend this to buy. It's better then placing important documents where they aren't protected. I also hung a picture to conceal the safe, which looks good. I also bought a fire proof bag to put important documents in to store in safe.
Good quality, might need a piece of 2x4 and some screws or nails to complete the install

This item arrives in very sturdy packaging. I selected a wall location that normally wouldn't have any water line. I have a lot of maintenance experience, so I have some knowledge if things like this. I cut the opening and found that the item was too small to mount between the wall studs in my location. I measured the gap and found that I could install a 28 inch piece of 2x4 to the adjoining wall stud and the box would fit perfectly. I own a cordless framing nailer and easily installed this additional lumber. I followed the advice of several reviewers and used my own lag bolts. The ones that ship with the wall safe are not of the best quality and would probably twist the heads off using normal techniques. I removed the door to make it easier to use a socket wrench to install the lag bolts. I was surprised to see that the door rides on a ball bearing. This is a good touch and shows attention to detail. If you remove the door, MAKE SURE YOU DO NOT LOSE THIS BALL BEARING! I was skeptical of the other reviewers concerns of the beeping noise when the buttons are pressed. I tested it out and the other reviewers were spot on. I didn't do anything fancy to remove the beeper, I just grasped the beeper between two fingers and kept turning it slightly left and right until the leads broke off. NO DESOLDERING REQUIRED. My unit had programming instructions in the box as well as the generic spec sheet. This is a decent quality unit for the price and should serve most people very well. I WOULD RECOMMEND THIS TO A FRIEND OR A FAMILY MEMBER.
Sturdy, well-made, and a good value.

This safe is of excellent quality, the steel it's made of is 1/8th inch thick and the entire unit has a "feel" of being a well-made product. It fit perfectly between studs on 16" centers (standard construction) with no adjustment or trimming needed, and the flange around the front neatly covered the cut-out area as promised, with a good margin to spare - so even a very poorly cut hole would have looked good.
Although I'm satisfied with the product overall, there are a few things for a new owner or prospective buyer to note: The inside space is divided into three sections, a lower, middle, and top shelf. I use my safe to items with sentimental value in pill bottles for convenience (small items) and the middle shelf's available space is very limited by the lock and electronics mechanism; which protrudes into the available area by about 1.25 inches (about 2.5 cm). Small pill bottles fit fine, but anything bigger will not, with the exception of 1 on each end of the shelf. Also, be VERY careful with the cover that goes over the key-hole. One of the legs snapped off of mine the first time I opened it, requiring a piece of tape to keep it on. Finally, press the buttons GENTLY. If you're in a hurry and mash them too hard, they can get stuck slightly off-kilter in the keypad base. You can easily right them, but it's better just to press gently.
All in all, a very good safe for the price. I gave it four stars instead of 5 only due to the limited center-shelf space, which I feel should have been mentioned in its description. I would recommend this safe to others.
