It was working fine
jimJuly 11, 2016
I bought this to speed up my backups. I had a similar USB 2 model by another vendor. This one is working fine.

UPDATE: After 9 months it has become intermittent. Sometimes when you insert a drive sometimes it recognizes it, other times not. I'm leaving the rating the same for now to see how they handle the replacement.

UPUPDATE: The vendor replaced the device, so the rating remains the same.
Perfect problem solver and delivered quickly

The Cable Matters USB 3.0 to SATA Hard Drive Docking Station arrived within the stated delivery time and works perfectly, as stated. Mine plugs into my laptop and is currently used to recover over 4Tb of files from 4 different HDD's that were setup on a RAID system on a desktop pc. With continuous usage the drives do get hot - so I would recommend some type of fan assembly blowing over the operating HDD's. The unit works flawlessly and is quick. It works with my USB2 port on my Windows10 laptop and I didn't need to download any additional drivers. I have recovered the files from the failed desktop pc and now using those same drives as an ongoing, external back-up for our various systems and crucial files. I am very happy with this purchase and glad I chose this product and supplier. If needed, I would certainly buy the product from the same supplier once again.
Handy little device

Cable Matters USB 3.0 to Dual-SATA Hard Drive Docking Station up to 6TB with Standalone Clone Function
I purchased this dual dock because I deal with a lot of old SATA drives, either through work or at home and this just makes life a lot easier without opening my computer up or messing with external enclosures. It has worked for me for most copying and investigative functions and the USB 3.0 makes it pretty fast. I'm taking a star off for two minor things: I've only tried it a couple of times but I've found the one-touch clone function to be unreliable. I probably wouldn't trust it if I had to make a clone, especially of a system drive. The second thing is that the plug for the device seems unnecessarily gigantic. It's a long, somewhat awkward shape that makes the thing a bit of a pain plugging into a surge protector. Other than that, this thing will probably see years of use.
Works well, but beware of a limitation with SSD cloning software.

The transfer speed and enhanced capacity are a real benefit. My biggest disappointment is that the cloning software that comes with some SSD drives will not recognize the brand of the new SSD that I've attached, so it will not allow the transfer. This wasn't an issue with my Thermaltake USB 2.0 dock, which passes that information through without issue. The new dock will still be useful for large backups and transfers, but I will either rely on my old dock for SSD upgrades or connect the SSD directly to an internal SATA port.
As simple as plugging it in and turning it on.

This hard drive docking station is great quality and insanely easy to use.

When I purchased it, given the price, I really expected to receive a cheap hunk of plastic with flimsy wires hanging out. I am happy to say that I was very surprised once I received the docking station. The build is very solid and the wires are thick and seem like they will last through repeated use and storing.

You don't need to be a computer technician to be able to use this dock. It easily plugs into a power outlet and your computer (thru USB) and is instantly ready to go. All you need to do is turn it on via a little button on the back and slip your hard drive into the slot (3.5" and 2.5" both work just fine.) Just like that, all of your stored data is available to view, copy, and remove from your hard drive.

I originally purchased this just to get some important files off of two hard drives pulled from fried computers and then toss it in my accessories bin until the next time the situation occurred. After receiving it and seeing how simple and effortless it is to use, I've been using it as a backup hard drive dock. I keep it plugged in most times and simply turn it on whenever I'm ready to backup important files, just like a flash drive. It requires such a small amount of space, I can leave it next to my tower or even on my desk without it being a burden.

In conclusion, just because the price is cheap, don't expect to receive a poor quality docking station. I am very happy with this item and because of the build and simplicity to use, I've decided to use it daily instead of just once or twice as originally planned. I recommend this item to anybody looking to pull some files from old hard drives or setup backup drives.
