Used for stranded bamboo flooring
chrissyn•June 8, 2018
This was a great floor nailer for me. I bought it to put in ~1100 sq ft of bamboo and it served me well. I had very few issues that weren't entirely my fault. The one issue that I did have was that the screws that hold in the base plate would back out over time and then the flush head hex bolts would ride high and cause you to have issues seating the gun in the tongue of the board. Multiple ways to fix this, I elected to just retorque the screws from time to time. Not a big deal. With the job done it was easy for me to re-sale on Craigslist for ~$40 less than I paid for it. Cheaper than a one week rental where I live and it gave me the flexibility to do the job at my pace which was slightly longer than that.
Excellent purchase!

Used this nailer to install 1/2" stranded bamboo. I have so far installed 1600 sq ft and not a single jamb, the 3 misfires are completely on me as I was close to the wall and hit to softly. I also have a 15.5 ga. stapler which is far to large for this size floor and a 18 ga bostitch stapler which works good for tight spots but is not strong enough to consistently penetrate the dense bamboo and curls many of the staples. I rented a Primatech nailer which cost 3 times as much to ensure a 18 ga. nailer would work on the install and it misfired every ten nails. Use the Powernail brand cleats. They have a flaired head which will considerably reduce tonge splitting. I normally purchase expensive tools but I am thrilled I chose this instead.
Great tool

I had to have this specific nailer to put down 2 rooms of eucalyptus T/G flooring (which unknown to me at the time, is similar to concrete). I had never installed flooring, so a friend let me use his stapler. That failed miserably. I called the flooring company and they told me I needed an 18g L-cleat nailer, so I found this one. It's a great tool. I'm a novice, and I put down 2 rooms of flooring without much trouble (none from the nailer). This nailer worked perfectly!
Watch a few YouTube instructional videos on how to use a flooring nailer and you'll do just fine. Don't forget to use a couple d

Layed 600 sq ft of bamboo over the course of two days working with my father in law. Worked flawlessly. The only time it misfired was towards the end of the install when I was getting lazy and not hitting the plunger square or didn't hit it hard enough. I'm by no means a professional installer, merely a DIYer with zero construction experience. This nailer was simple to use and saved me thousands in install costs. Watch a few YouTube instructional videos on how to use a flooring nailer and you'll do just fine. Don't forget to use a couple drops of air tool oil before each use.
The only misfires it has had have been due to a poor mallet strike

I've ran about 3500 cleats through my gun so far and it has performed flawlessly. The only misfires it has had have been due to a poor mallet strike. This thing does great with 9/16" Bamboo set at about 80psi! High quality nailer.
UPDATE 2/21/17: After about 5000 cleats the gun started jamming with the drive blade plunged. First it was ever so often but it quickly became every other cleat. I had always oiled as suggested but it didn't make any difference. I completely disassembled the gun and inspected but found no broken parts. When I reassembled it I re-greased the cylinder bore and the drive blade slide. The last 600 cleats ran through better than ever.
UPDATE #2 2/27/17: When I disassembled the gun one of the four bolts that hold the bottom end cap on broke off in the aluminum housing (there appeared to be some type of thread locker on the bolts. So I contacted Freeman via their website contact page, I explained what I had experienced and inquired about a new aluminum housing and bolt. They replied by shipping me a completely new unit with prepaid shipping so send my used one back to them. The only question that was asked what the brand of oil I was using (Husky Air Tool Oil). I'm keeping it at 5 stars due to the customer service.
