Rocksmith 2014 Remastered audio lag solved on Xbox One S!
J. ParsellFebruary 13, 2017
I was very upset with the unplayable audio lag on Rocksmith with my new Xbox One S + Vizio M70-D3 + Samsung HW-KM45C Soundbar setup. I had previously played on Xbox 360 with component cable video outputs and direct optical audio to a Sony A/V receiver, and never had an issue. I guess the newer HDMI equipment introduces processing delays, and my Samsung Soundbar probably has to also make adjustments for the lag to the wireless subwoofer. Whether my sound went through HDMI to the Vizio and from there through HDMI ARC to the Soundbar, or directly from the Xbox to the Soundbar via Optical, there was noticeable delay from picking a string to hearing the sound come out of the Soundbar.

But when I plugged in this Fiio D3 via Optical interface from the Xbox and then plugged my headphones into it, the lag was gone! Now I need to get some really good headphones to use with it, if/when I want to hear the guitar sound through the Xbox.

All that being said, I figured out another way to get the game to be playable using my Soundbar. I plugged my guitar (or bass) into my amp. I plug the Rocksmith Realtone Cable into the Tuner Output (Pre-Eq.) on the back of the amp. I Set Player 1 Guitar / Bass Volume to Zero (0) in the game. So I hear my playing through my amp, but Rocksmith is still able to tell that I am playing the notes. The downside to this setup is you don't get to hear all the effects the game is able to produce.

As far as I could tell, the lag (which is technically still there under this setup, I just can't hear it) was not affecting the scoring of whether I hit the notes on time, but I haven't played anything too fast. If I get to that point where I think it is causing a problem, I will switch to headphones and the Fiio.
so good. Small

So far, so good. Small, very easy to connect, signal to noise ratio good enough that noise is totally inaudible at volume levels required to clearly hear the signal in an otherwise noisy environment.

My previous D to A audio converter (different company and shape of case) also worked perfectly, for 2 years, until it "died" during normal use. No evidence of power surge or any other event that might have caused it to fail.

I hope this one lasts more than 2 years. Properly designed solid state circuity continuously turned on without power surges should last at least 50,000 hours, about 5.7 years. We'll see.

I recently purchased a new Samsung LED TV (UN65KS800D) and my older Bose 3-2-1 series II was not compatible with the TV. There is no optical input or HMDI, etc. on the Bose system. Because of this I could not use the Bose surround sound for my Fire TV (it did work for cable TV, because the cable box has white / red wire inputs).

This little device fixed my problem! Plus the setup was VERY easy. All of the needed parts are included as well.

Additionally, if your TV has a dedicated USB power supply... the device will turn off when your TV if also off (at least that is what happens with my Samsung TV).

I now run an optical output to this box, and the box connects the audio wires (red & white). The sound is just as good as before (the voices are in sync as well).

Simple and inexpensive way to convert digital audio sources to analog
square.waveApril 21, 2016
This little digital-analog converter works really well. I got one for my computer, because the on-board analog audio outputs are very sensitive to noise. When the case fan on the rear of the computer runs at a certain RPM range, the audio output signal is filled with noise. So now I just run the computer's optical output to this FIIO D3, and let it handle the analog conversion. It gets nothing but a clean digital signal from the computer, and outputs an analog signal free of noise.

It works so well I ran a second optical cable from the TV and can now use my computer speakers for watching TV too. To be clear, there is only one optical input on this DAC so in this arrangement I have to swap cables. It also has a coaxial digital input, but it cannot be used simultaneously with the optical input. You have to flip a switch on the DAC to choose which one you want to use.
This Box may have saved my marriage!

This Box may have saved my marriage! I'm not quite ready for Medicare but my hearing is basically horrid. Everyone kept telling me to turn down the volume before they went deaf too. The optical cable was better quality than I expected. The unit was very simple to hookup and had indicators to show it was working. There is a line out jack so I didn't even have to use the RCA jack converter cable. The volume out of the line out jack was more than enough when combined with my blutooth transmitter and blutooth headphones internal amp to give me more volume than I will ever need. The only setup needed on the TV is to set the s/pdif output to PCM stereo. Be sure not to mix up the power supply because they go out of their way to tell you it is a 3Vdc power supply, (looks like a generic usb cell phone charger). Hook it up and if the blue sync lite comes on you are ready to go. I would highly recommend this to anyone.
