but it's still quite good, not enough a problem to ding rating down ...

Stellar product out of the box, installs in seconds with original or aftermarket hardware. WARNING: My part did not come with hardware, so if you're missing your hardware, be aware. Tilt is not as smooth or has as much traverse as my original part, but it's still quite good, not enough a problem to ding rating down a star. Will update based on reliability. All structural parts seem to be stamped steel of good gauge, knobs, levers, etc are plastic. Considering this and the replacement piston saved me around $400, I'd say it's a 5-star review all the way!
PERFECT FIT! Frankly I'm amazed. Mount failed on two year old Office Depot chair --- new mount a precise match

PERFECT FIT! Frankly I'm amazed. Mount failed on two year old Office Depot chair --- new mount a precise match and chair 'feels' stable for the first time. A+
Totally fixed my two chairs. . . .

I have two semi expensive chairs that both died of the same problem. ( a circular part inside the tilt control broke and made the chair rock side to side as well as front and back. I realized I could buy these parts not long ago but wasn't sure which one I needed, ie the tilt control or the gas lift, so I bought two of each. To day I installed the gas lifts and put the old tilt controls back on and it still rocked side to side. So I installed the new tilt controls and now I have two of my favorite chairs again. The tilt control fit perfect, the holes are a tad larger than my original so there was no wallowing out of the holes to make it fit. All in all, I'm a happy camper again.
A well built replacement tilt control

I happened to have three chairs that needed a replacement tilt control, so I decided to do a bit of an experiment and purchased three different brands. All three brands were acceptable replacements, but this model has the most solid build of the three. It physically weighs more as it uses a thicker metal for the attachment plate and the tension adjustment knob is large with a good solid feel. I have two more chairs that will eventually need repair and this will be my choice for them.
Very glad I found this

I just got it today and installed it, so I can not comment on the longevity of the item as others have. I am very pleased with the part. I thought I had to buy a new chair when the swivel mechanic broke on my executive chair. It's 5 or 6 years old but I didn't want to spend 400$ to get a new big one and spending the next few years on a small office chair wasn't something I wanted either.
So when I came across this item while browsing for "office chairs" I was extremely pleased. The measurements fit exactly, there are even holes in the plate for the nuts of the chair's backrest bolts. This seems to be a highly standardized assembly across all office chairs and it fits my executive chair perfectly.
Assembly was quick, the hardest part was to get the shock-absorber stick out of the old assembly, you need a hammer for that and give the old assembly a good beating after you removed it from the chair, but eventually it will come loose and then the rest is easy.
