This grinder is a beast! I previously owned a Kitchen Aid grinder and I can tell you that it didn't come close to the build quality of the Ankarsrum, but if you own one of these mixers then you already know about their quality. Worked like a champ when grinding 10 lbs. of chicken thighs and grinding shrimp, no overheating, no stalling. It was just one effortless grind, you don't even have to push down the plug, it just sucks the meat in. And very little of the meat gets left behind when you're doing cleanup. Beats any home version of meat grinders in the market by miles. Best meat grinder ever!

The meat grinder is a part of my system. We hog hunt and process the meat into cuts and sausage. I bought the Ankarsrum with the complete attachment kit which included the full grinder attachment set. The grinder is a #10/12 grinder with a geared down 3/4 horsepower motor (600 watts) which you can control the auger speed. This nets you the capability to do about 300 to 400 lbs per hour. The auger design is like the LEM big bite technology so it will pull the meat in without using the pusher normally. The cutting blade it comes with his German hardened steel and is of very high quality. The plates ARE specialized because they have a two cutout design but the size is #10/12 plate.
Now, pair that great grinding with the fact that the mixer mixes sausage with the dough hook perfectly and fully with spices throughout in the stainless steel bowl you've got a great setup to get meat ground and 5lb batches mixed in not time ready for your stuffer.

We had the Kitchen Aid and are so much happier with the Ankarsrum! There grinder is made from cast aluminum and the dies are made for long term use. Even the pasta dies are much thicker that I expected.

Yeah, the prices are... umm... but the build quality and the functionality are just amazing. We love the Ankarsrum mixer and have enjoyed the grinder attachment just as much. The instructions are a bit IKEA-esk, but with a bit of staring at the pieces it all makes sense.
