Ambient Weather WM-5 Handheld Weather Meter w/Windspeed, Temperature, Humidity, Dew Point, Heat Index, Pressure, Altitude

Key features
- •The Ambient Weather WM-5 allows you to track weather in the palm of your hand! Radio/TV reports cover a large area, but WM-5's data is specific to your location.
- •Unlike other units, the jackknife case gives you the most accurate measurements--your hand's heat/moisture won't influence the environmental sensors. The Honeywell humidity sensor and the Swiss-made barometer can be easily re-calibrated and the unit has a weather alert if the barometric pressure rises or falls 6 millibars over 3-hrs.
- •The WM-5 can be tripod mounted using the optional tripod mounting fixture. WM-5 wind meters are designed with a wind speed accuracy of better than +/- 3% and have a 2-Year warranty.
- •Optional Tripod Mount Item No: WM-TRIPOD: ASIN B005DGH3AQ

Purchased as a gift for my GF. She likes it but it seams to takes a few hours for the humidity reading to be accurate, also it does not do barometric pressure at high elevations (it is advertised that it does not, but would be nice if it did). Over all she loves it.
Great unit with lots of features

The WM-5 is a great unit that tells you key weather measurements. Especially neat is tracking changing pressure over time, and the ability to record max wind speed to review later. The dew point reading is also handy. I had the WM-5 with me at the Outer Banks in NC during Tropical Storm Hermine and had fun with both those features. I tracked falling pressure all through the night as the storm moved in. In the morning it was clear and sunny but the unit was reading a very low pressure. I thought maybe it was wrong but sure enough the back side of the storm wound up again shortly after- it was neat knowing the center of low pressure had passed. I then took it out on the beach to get some wind speeds and was literally blown away. It recorded sustained 40-50mph winds and a gust of over 76mph, shown in the picture. It's a lot of fun to use it in such conditions when the impeller is really ripping in the wind.
It's not without disappointments though. The altitude reading based on pressure is not reliable (I am currently 440 feet below sea level here in Virginia?) and takes serious study of the instructions to understand how to set it. The unit also cannot accurately read temperatures below freezing because the battery freezes and it malfunctions. I also suspect the battery life is shorter than stated but I haven't seriously tested that- it'll stay on for a couple days continuously.
It's handy to have the standard 1/4-20 tripod mount on the bottom, I often attach it to a small flex tripod.
Overall this is an awesome tool for weather enthusiasts and people who spend a lot of time outside.

this is a nice piece, measurements seem to be accurate against my home based weather station. only issue is when the battery starts to run low, you cannot cycle through each measurement, but it doesn't always show the battery low indicator. so if that happens, you just need to replace the battery.
Specifically Chose This Model

I am a Na't Wx Service weather spotter. I chose this model because it does everything except measure rainfall. Wind speed in mph up to 89 mph, kph, or feet/second. Measures current speed, max speed. Barometer reads in in/Hg or Millibars. reads temperature F/C, relative humidity, dew point, wind chill/feels like temp. Corrects for altitude after first calibrated where you are (local elevation). the enclosed screen is a bit bigger than the window. Flashlight might be needed to read in reduced light.
Super sensitive!
