Attracted Orioles Quickly!
BFApril 5, 2018
Attracted Hooded Orioles in So Cal within 5 days of putting it out in backyard. I used Welches grape jelly and a mandarin. I was concerned about bees and insects getting into the jelly so I read that some people put a little water on the jelly, just enough to cover the jelly and that has deterred insects so far and the orioles don't mind the watered down jelly at all. I haven't seen the Orioles go for the mandarin yet, but I think it helps attract them in the first place to the jelly and the nearby nectar feeder. I am going to try valencia oranges next. I've got no complaints at all. This feeder works great! Sturdy, functional and attractive!
Great Oriole feeder

LOVE this, I love the dish that holds the jelly (its the same exact thing as some of my less expensive votive candle holders and will be easy to replace if it ever breaks) and I love that I can put 2 orange halves on it. I hung it up yesterday and within a few hours the Orioles were all over it. I do highly recommend ant motes for the top, which I found on Amazon too. Before I the ant motes I had TONS of ants all over the oranges, they would eat up the orange in day!
Best Oriole Feeder

I love this feeder and have had orioles on it within a week of getting it. The jelly jar holds enough for about a week of the orioles coming. They like the oranges too and it isn't a cheap plastic feeder that looks ugly. I like the metal and the simplicity of it. The orioles love it too!

orioles are eating this daily
Butterflies and Bees enjoy also!!!

Keep the fruit and jelly fresh - pollinators will visit! If it does not hang straight then use a twistie tie to help it not move. I added three pix of butterfly and bee visitors - hopefully birds are visiting as well.
