Stopped functioning.

We bought this trash can and started using it December of 2015. By May of 2016 the sensor that opens the lid stopped working. It was not a matter of changing the battery, etc. It no longer functions. We have only been able to use it by manually flipping up the lid with our hand ever since. Defeats the purpose of having a touchless trash can, right? Then the sticker around the sensor started peeling up so I removed it. It looks bad both ways. Lastly, the lid doesn't close all the way either.
Today I finally just ordered the simplehuman that functions with the foot pedal and has the wide opening. I have to have a trash can where the lid reliably opens and closes. Can't wait for it to get here.

It could be better

The trash can is visually appealing and keeps odors sealed well. It does keep the trash bag hidden under the lid, and it was one of the more affordable systems on amazon. However the touchless system is fickle. There are times when it works great, and opens immediately when it senses motion, and closes in a few seconds. Then other times, for no reason at all (it wasn't being used and no one was near it), it simply will not work; the red light turns on, and you can hear the electric hum trying to reset the door so that it will open and close and sometimes this lasts a few seconds and the reset works, but then other times it'll last an hour! Sometimes I just turn the whole system off for a day just to not waste battery and 85% of the time this resets the touchless system works again. In terms of battery: it uses 3 C batteries to power the system, I've had the batteries in for about 2 months so far and it's not needing replacement yet. At the end of the day, I think if I had to re-purchase, I may have just opted for a simple stainless steel trash can without a touchless system.
pop into the trash goes the batteries and the battery door

I ordered this trash can from amazon about a year ago. I liked it except for how the battery door was made. It was very cheap and didn't seem to lock in very well. After messing with it I thought it would be ok and it was for about eight months until the battery door and the fresh pack of c batteries I had just put in fell into the trash. Unfortunately I hadn't noticed what had happened until after it was too late. Now I am using this as a regular trash can with the lid manually stuck open. I would not suggest this product. I would suggest trying another similar product. I liked this product when it did work it just wasn't made very well.
Does not stand the test of time!

We have owned this trashcan for just north of 7 months and the lid's motor does not have enough strength left to even open a 1/4 of the way. At 4 months we started to notice the lack in power in the lid, tried changing the batteries, but saw no improvement. The decrease in power has consistantly plagued us since and now it barely opens.
On top of the power issues the open button on the lid has cracked and is now sharp when touched - and this is just after 7 months of use in a household of 4!
Not recommended, spend the extra $50 and get a trashcan that will last you multiple years!

An obviously flawed product given you read the negative reviews.

Any product that malfunctions 8 months after purchase deserves no stars, but I unfortunately have to list at least one. We loved the trash can while it worked, but around seven months after purchasing it we noticed the lid randomly opening and closing every so often. Fast forward a month and the lid now immediately opens upon turning the unit on and stays there. There are many other reviews of the product that state similar problems, so take note.
