Surprisingly thoughtful design

We got this to replace a Bosch ES-2.5, which had a tendency to short life (we had two before giving up on them) despite eating anode rods completely in the (non-trivial) annual maintenance. It's too soon to say anything about the lifetime of this unit, but it can't be worse.
Where the ES-2.5 recommends maintenance "every year or so" (we found the anode rods consistently gone after a year), the SHC-2.5 recommends a 2-year maintenance interval, and plenty of reviews indicate that will suffice. So already there is a maintenance advantage, but also SHC-2.5 maintenance will be easier, because the SHC-2.5 has a flat back and precise wall mount, making it easy to mount the tank on the wall. And, though we don't expect to replace anode rods as often, it's also a nice (if small) advantage that the anode rod for the SCH-2.5 is less expensive than for the ES-2.5.
Maintenance aside, there are operating advantages that we see immediately:
(1) Current draw is less (11A/1300W vs 13A/1500W), without noticeable difference in heating time.
(2) Something we never would have realized before using it, is the ease of temperature adjustment. You just have to reach into the cabinet under the sink. The shape of the tank guides your hand to the dial, which rotates easily left-right -- a brilliant little design touch to be able to adjust temperature without even looking - even though the tank is in a cabinet below the sink!
Altogether, it's great - can't think of any way to improve it.

Excellent for undercounter use at a sink or lavatory

The big advantage of this unit is that it will fit under a counter. This is a huge improvement for sinks that are located far from the building's main water heater. INSTANT hot water! 1/2" male threaded water connections- you can use flex hoses to tie it in. Cord and plug preinstalled- just plug it in. Recommended!
Heats water fast

Probably to early for a good review, but so far so good. Was relatively easy to install if you got some hand skills. Heated water in less than 5 minutes, really hot in about 12 to 15 minutes. Has to set the dial at medium (half way) also had to get a 1 to 5 gpm shower head to have the water last for a full bath. (About 10 to 15 minutes) It looks good if you are not able to hide it under a sink or so. I will come back later for a update, but so far, I am very pleased.
Mind the service schedule

Just bought my second one, first unit died after 9 years of faithful service. When I pulled it and dumped the contents a ton of sediment and rust came out and I realize now I should have been pulling this ever year or ai and flushing like a tankless"¦I bet if I had it would still work another 9 years"¦.which is why I ordered another of the same. These are really well made but they cant clean themselves.
