Tech Support is very responsive

I have had this product since 2018. I have used it on a number of devices over the years. Having bought a new laptop, I needed help with getting the product to work correctly on it. It seemed that no matter what I tried, it would not work. Then I emailed tech support at vidbox.company. They responded quickly and gave me numerous options to fix the connection issues. It all worked well, just have a minor tracking issue left, due to the new laptop using an AMD Athlon Gold processor. The issue is minor. I learned that this processor does not do well with high demand programs. This product, which does work quite well, works best with an Intel processor.
As good as very expensive professional software!

I am LOVING this! I have VHS tapes that are over 30 years old. I've tried transferring them over time but never really seem to get caught up (did I mention I have a LOT of tapes?). I've used the GO VIDEO machine and that was nice but you're limited to just moving the video to DVD with no way to edit. And when the machine finally died, it was too expensive to replace and eventually almost impossible to find even used. Then I tried one similar to this product but no matter what I did, the video would not show up in the program so that didn't work. I just put the whole thing out of my mind until I came across this product. I figured with it being Amazon and I'm Prime, I had nothing to lose.
This is great because you have a simple interface for uncomplicated videos (all one thing and not longer than 2hr SP mode) and an advanced mode where you can do everything from stop recording so you can insert a new tape or fast forward to another section you want to record without recording what's in between and it saves each "clip" in a list to the right of the preview window) where you can even rename them on the fly - no need to open the folder where it's being saved to edit the file name there, which is so less confusing and quicker. You can choose the quality and even the format (like mpg file or CD movie file or standard or long DVD file and more). You can even edit the video you transfer right from there or open a file outside to edit. You can set a timer, too. So if the tape runs 2 hrs but you only want the first hour, no need to watch the video. Set the timer and it will stop recording even though the tape continues to play! AND you can even export the files right from there to social media like Facebook!
This also lets you create pix discs and audio files. Just choose which you want to do from the 4 very simple processes. Each is very easy to understand and it comes with excellent written and visual directions. The software disc is easy to install and it really is just the best!
*Pix is of the advanced mode screen.

I have used the 5.0 version and it worked fine copying old VHS home movies. I bought this one to use on a computer without a optical drive (cd tray) and could not find online where to download the software. Finally I saw in small print with the link in instructions under the first step. I had missed it earlier and tried to search online. Version 8 has more options, like saving as a media file rather than trying to just burn a CD, and it works well. Quality is mostly dependent on your old VCR.
Easy to use - great video results

I've used this for just about 4 hours of video conversion. I have a Sony Hi8 HandyCam DCR-TR7000 using the S-video and RCA type audio cables.
Simple to use - hook it up, set up the record program, hit play ... and it records. The end product is very good. Not as good as if the original was from a digital format and not tape, but it is very close. One piece of advice - when you are setting up to record and you are asked to enter the length of the recording - make sure you know the length or estimate more time. This feature is great if you want to leave and let it do its thing and come back whenever yo fell like - the recoding will stop at the time you set. But if the video is longer and the set time is shorter, it will stop recording! You can bypass that step and go straight to "endless" record, but only use this you are going to monitor the progress. You can stop and start a any point using this method.
The only problem I have had thus far was the initial install. I had to run it several times. Twice to get the drivers to install correctly and then two more times for the software to identify my device. Since then, no problems at all.

This met a need for a fraction of the price sending it out to a service for conversion would have.
The bad thing is you HAVE to have a VHS machine to convert VHS movies (this is a "duh" for many of you, but I had no idea how this worked). My in-laws asked me to convert their VHS movies of my husband and his brother to DVD. We borrowed his grandmother's VHS machine. This kit consists of two main things: a conversion box and software. The conversion box connects to your line out on your VHS machine and there is a USB cable that goes from the box to your laptop or computer.
The software installed easily. I like that you can see the movie playing on a little box in the software. I thought I would just be licking my finger and sticking it in the air to see when I thought it was time to stop the VHS so this is really handy. The quality of the video is just OK and be careful about the volume you choose. I really wish I had just kept it at 0. I put it to 1 and I think it created some white noise that is minorly annoying. Not sure if that noise was already on the VHS, though, honestly. My father in law had a movie he was in as an extra and wanted me to make a DVD of the VHS he taped from TV. The sound didn't have the white noise which makes me think maybe it was just the amateur video of my husband's Eagle Court of Honor that caused it. At any rate, the quality is ok and good enough for preserving memories. Not HD by any stretch, but our kids can now see daddy with a full head of hair and can hear him. It's pretty neat for me as I had never seen any videos of my husband that young.
Mission accomplished. I only took off a star because the quality is just so-so, but that isn't fair since VHS quality is just so-so. I would rate this a 4.5.
We used this on our laptop running Windows 7 with no issues. I am not even close to an A/V professional. I am a homeschooling mom with an engineering degree, but I don't think that degree gave me any leg up on anyone else in hooking this thing up. I am glad we bought it. I guess the only bad thing is you pay $60 and then copy your 5 DVDs from VHS and just have this useless device and software :). But, $60 is much cheaper than the quote I got from one of those services!
