Fantastic fitness tracker for the price.

I bought my first Misfit Flash a little over a year ago, and it recently died after heavy and daily wear (the back kept coming off, and I dropped it which ultimately killed it). I got this one for an excellent price, and for that, it's hard to beat. The app is user friendly, and it does a decent job of tracking fitness.
Now, I did get a second Flash due to the price, and it does basically the same thing as other more expensive fitness trackers. However, it isn't as polished and cool looking as some other fitness trackers. It really only tracks fitness and sleep, and while it is pretty accurate for walking (I would recommend putting it in your pocket for walking), it is less so for other activities. I do a lot of yard work during the summer, but there is no activity tracker for that since it isn't a sport (you can track running, bike riding, tennis, basketball, etc.). I also never have taken it in water, since I don't trust it to be water proof.
Overall, this is a greater beginner fitness tracker if you are unsure if you want one and don't feel like spending hundreds of dollars. The Flash is pretty durable, but, like me, you will probably end up replacing it in a year.

All right Folks, I purchased this item brand spankin new. Ordered it last week. I awaited anxiously for it to arrive on Friday, which it did. Hurray! -_-
I opened it up and got immediately to syncing it. Well, first of all it wouldn't turn on. "Huh" I thought. Got support and they said replace the battery. So I did. And Lookie there! It turned on! Now to sync it with my phone. Remember, I said I bought it brand spankin' new. It sees the device, but takes me to a page that says, "Device is linked to another account." I think to myself, "How can this be? I bought it BRAND SPANKIN NEW" Turns out after some research, that this is a fairly common occurrence. Now, I can't say I blame Amazon, they are just hosting the product, but apparently this company has been known for shady practices on eBay. Friends. Do NOT purchase this product. If you have, perhaps find a different pedometer and request a refund. I know I did.
Good, but then it died...

My thoughts on this Misfit Flash activity tracker:

"¢ = What I wanted out of a tracker, before I chose to get this one.
â—‹ = Comments after I got this tracker
----
"¢ I wanted thin, non-bulky, shatter resistant, exercise tracker that is water proof/resistant (can take a shower, wash my hands, or do the dishes with it on, if not swim.) I also wanted something sweat resistant - I do Krav Maga and Kickboxing and wanted to see if I could wear it under my gloves.
â—‹ Water proof, which is great, so sweat should not have been an issue. Never got to test it while wearing on wrist under gloves, but it was probably thin enough to.

"¢ Something that can handle punches, and not fall off easily.
â—‹ I did test in a Krav Maga class using shoe clip, did not fall off. I did not understand how to activate track activity mode though...

"¢ Color would be nice, but I know they stain quite easily.
â—‹ Color was great, cheaper than it looks in the pictures, but perfect color and style to wear every day.

"¢ And can tell time/replace watch, because goodness knows I don't want it bumping and changing the date on my watch.
â—‹ I wore this on my other wrist with no issues, quite comfortable.
â—‹ But though the clip was tight it fell off my shoe twice in the 5 days I had it. Once I noticed, the second time I didn't notice for about an hour while cleaning the house - all that activity - not counted toward my goal. However, on my other shoes I went through 2 hours of Krav Maga class and it stayed securely to my shoe. I guess it depends on the shoe and how loose the laces are.
â—‹ Rounds time to the nearest 5 minutes though. For those who don't use analog clocks or need precise times like 60 seconds or 2 minute times, it's tougher to read and not recommended.

"¢ I don't want GPS. I can handle a week charging cycle. ...I don't necessarily care about calories, just wanted to compare day to day steps/activity and sleep monitoring .
â—‹ No GPS features, simple and straight forward step tracker. Though I should mention, I would not recommend wearing this on your dominate hand. I have to quickly and repeatedly pick up things at work, so I can trick it to think I am doing steps. When I am holding something and walking I don't swing my arm, and it will not track those steps. I would suggest for better accuracy using the clip on the shoe, if you could find a place to secure it.
â—‹ One time I slept with it on my wrist but put my phone on airplane mode that night and I did not track any of my sleeping data. Also relies on movement, not any electrical impulses as I assumed most trackers use.

"¢ I'd also liked to have vibration to wake me up at a decent time/light sleeping spot.
â—‹ There is no vibration and/or alarm feature for this tracker.

This product fit most of the needs I had wanted it to cover. Watch for sleeping, and clip for everyday use (can clip on pants, shirt, or shoe) including my martial arts/self defense classes.

Other things to mention:
Menu for goal setting was hard to find
You can't change the goal day by day
Did not track afternoon naps.
No auto goal setting adjustments, coaching advice, etc...

Overall, if the product would not have died on me, especially within a week, I would have been happy with it.
Was great when it worked

I've actually had two of these break on me. A lot of people have had problems with the strap. I did not have that problem. The Flash never fell out and neither strap snapped. It was actually quite comfortable to wear, even while sleeping. Mine just stopped synching and then refused to light up at all. Both of them. The first one stopped working within 30 days so I was able to get a replacement from Amazon. Then the second one stopped working about 45 days later. I contacted Misfit via email because it seemed too long for Amazon to help me, but still within the year warranty. We emailed back and forth with them suggesting different fixes, sometimes the same fixes I had already tried. I even went out and paid $8 for a replacement battery to try to get this to work. Nothing did. When finally they had ran out of suggestions for fixes, I asked if I could get a refund or replacement. I never received a response to that email. So, I gave up and bought a fitbit, which I am happy with and has been working since October. It was really sad that this did not work because there were features that this product had that I really liked. It seemed to do a better job of tracking my quality of sleep than other monitors. Misfit also claims that this is water proof. Now, I take showers, not baths and I do not swim, so I was not able to test that out, but you can track swimming with this device. And the price point was a lot better than a lot of the other fitness trackers on the market at the time I bought this. The fitness tracking also seems to me to be more accurate than other trackers. Great idea on paper and while it lasted, just didn't work for very long.
So far, so good

I just received my Misfit Flash today, and so far I love it! I have a Samsung s4 phone, and with all of the reviews citing issues with the Android app, I was apprehensive enough to by the Flash to try it out, instead of immediately jumping into the Shine 2. From what I have seen so far, I think I would have been safe making the bigger purchase initially, but my 16 year old daughter is excited to inherit my Flash when I upgrade. I was also concerned about the band breaking, especially since it is winter in Iowa, and as a school bus driver, there are lots of opportunities for snagging or breaking the hard plastic frame of the band on something, or having it crack in the cold winter air. I jought myself some peace of mind, temporarily, by taping around with a piece of scotch tape, knowing that that was a very temporary fix. I brainstormed better solutions as I drove my bus this afternoon, and settled on what I think is the most brilliant solution for the weak frame on the band I have seen to date. I went to Walmart this evening, and purchased a $0.97 package of water balloons. I snipped the tip off of one, and also cut off the valve end, leaving a double ended round shape that I slid over the band and around the face. The balloon is sheer enough to let the light shine through, and I really actually like the multi colored pattern on my flash. I feel like it's going to offer quite a bit of protection against breakage and loss, as well as scuffs and scratches. And at less than a dollar for 30 of them, I can change it daily if I want... Although I doubt I will have to.
I will come back and update my review with more details of my user experience after I have had it for a little longer, but I thought that this solution was too good not to share immediately.
