PRO : Replace my Frontier business phone lines that cost more than twice monthly, work as a dial up line for old machines when I switched to "Alarm mode",caller ID ,virtual fax, free porting old numbers,Virtual receptionist is a cool feature
CON : When using it as "Alarm mode" for dial up line,I have to use only the main base ,linx will not work (same as fax line) so I use Linx as regular phone line ,sometimes I had to reset the base in order to get phone system to work or will not receive any calls

Working out great for us!

Surprised by the negative reviews. As a small business owner, we were getting a TON of spam calls (usually companies trying to sell CC merchant accounts). So I needed to set up a phone tree system. I chose Ooma, and really every single step of the process was as simple as it gets. The phone tree system that you can set is fairly robust for small business needs. And porting was very easy and quick. I was even able to port over my 800 number from Vonage which was a surprise (I thought for sure they were going to disallow that).
The online interface is a tad confusing, but it's probably just because I've only been using this for a few months. I love the way you can set your hours AND holidays so that the tree can be changed for those days. That means the phone will only ring when I want it to.
If I were to give it a negative, I'd say the fax part is not working 100% yet. Most know that it is difficult to impossible to Fax over VOIP. But Ooma supports a system where I can send the file to them and they fax it. The problem is the logs don't show the outgoing fax. So I have no idea if it's still waiting to go out or even if it has gone out. When I hit the send button, it should show up immediately in the outgoing fax log as "scheduled", but it does not. So although one outbound fax I made worked, this second one isn't showing anything and I have no idea whether it went out or whether it will go out. I sent the fax a 2nd time, but after 30 minutes, still nothing in the log.
But unless you're big on faxing (why?) I would highly recommend this system for a small business. It's likely to have everything you'll need.

Sanity is worth more than this!

Ooma is a complete waste of time and money. Their service is low quality, horribly unreliable, and a customer service nightmare. After several months of being charged for services I did not use and even after requesting the charges be adjusted I received no assistance and/or changes on my bill. I then requested my account be closed (because they, of course, don't allow you to cancel online because their service is so horrible) I was informed the agent I called was unable to complete my request. I was told a manager would have to call me back, which failed to happen again, and continued to be charged. I gave it a last ditch effort and called one more time, this time immediately resorting to yelling and belittling the workers (I feel bad but unfortunately I think the only way to get your service cancelled is to make them not want you as a customer) and after 30 minutes of the lady telling me she would be unable to cancel my service and would have my call transferred (third time transferred already) to her manager I agreed only to be informed that her manager was unavailable and that they would "call me back". I informed the agent that my card has been cancelled, I have filed a claim with the BBB, and continued to yell at her until she finally gave in and cancelled it for me (after a 10 minute hold). Finally, I am finally free of the horrid "service" that is Ooma and will never go back. Please, if you value your sanity, STAY AWAY from Ooma.
Fantastic features for such a low price! But, not for everyone...

I ask you to answer one question before you proceed:
Is your business telephone a CRITICAL part of your business?
If your answer is "YES" then stop listening to this siren song thats saying "CHEAP CHEAP CHEAP" in your ear and get yourself a real phone system! Seriously! You don't buy an economy car when you need a delivery truck. Same logic applies here.
If your answer is "NO", like it is for me, then this is a great solution! Its cheap. It works well. I've contacted support on TWO occasions and they solved my problem quickly! (Both times it was "how do I configure it to do something else?") They actually CHECKED to make sure that it worked (I was floored, these days everything is so "self service" that I don't expect much.) Both times they solved my problem in one phone call.
This thing is so feature laden, its GREAT! It has an automated attendant who "screens" 90% of junk mail calls. It has different messages for "during hours" and "after hours". It can make calls go directly to your cell phone and let you answer calls on the go (which is a great solution if you find the sound quality of regular Ooma to be poor). You get 500 minutes of a toll free number included. I love it!
For our very small business, phone service is really not important. We get a few occasional calls from truck drivers or other delivery people. Sometimes from customers or vendors, but 99% of the time those people are emailing us. We can go an entire day without an important phone call, other days we get 2 or 3.
Sound quality varies from "sounds weird but I can understand everything" to "perfect" depending on what internet voodoo is happening that day.
Overall, I think that FOR THE MONEY ($20/mo) this is a fantastic solution if phone service is not business critical for you. But if you MAKE MONEY ON THE PHONE just stop right now. That would include scheduling appointments, taking orders, whatever. Don't try to use an economy car as a delivery truck.

Beware: Must buy IP phones direct from Ooma

I had purchased the Ooma Office box from Amazon and chose to also get IP phones at the same time. But once they arrived, they didn't work. I called Ooma Support and was told that you must buy IP phones directly from them as they must be provisioned before they send them out. I'm hoping the system works when I get the phones, but for lack of clear instructions on the IP phones, I give them 3 stars.
