Not impressed
Alex Hall•November 30, 2017
Less than impressed. My older Linksys AC1900 has much better signal strength than this one did. I tried it out in a couple different locations and it just couldn't provide good coverage or speeds. And then I tried to set this thing up as a wireless bridge, only to discover it can't be used as a wireless bridge. Shame on me for not checking that in the first place. If you have a small home or apartment I guess it would be okay. If you have a 2,000 sq ft house or bigger then your better off with a more robust router.
Very good and very easy to use. Not a lot of configuration options though.

So far this router has been amazing. It has decent range, and allows a lot more devices to be connected. No more dropped connections in this house.
First things first, I went from a single N band router, to this. This allows so much more flexibility in the way I can connect devices. I got rid of cable over a year ago, and we just stream everything that we want to watch. The old router would stutter, and kick devices off if we were streaming. This router, never had an issue, even with 27 devices connected.
Range is the only fault I can really give it, but I switch to 2.4 if I need a little more range. The 5ghz transmitter seems a little weak, but it still covers my whole house, including the garage.
The firmware and GUI is very good, but is limited. For a basic user that just wants a router that works, and requires minimal work, this thing is perfect. I wish this had at least an option for the transmit power so I could jack it up a few mW.
All in all, this is an excellent router that gives good features like external media, prioritization, MAC address blocking, website restriction, parental controls, etc.
This works right out of the box, very simple. Name it, and start connecting. I highly recommend for the ease of use and functionality at this price ($160).

Works, well but band jumping needs improvement

It has a strong signal that reaches throughout my house. It's 1649 Sq. ft., single story, with this unit off center. However, it has technology where it bundles the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands. Static devices such as my smart TVs work great with this. My mobile devices drop from one band and then need to be added back, presumably because they're picking up a different based on distance. It's a bit annoying. I've applied the latest firmware to it. I'll keep my eyes open for newer firmware.
I'm using this as just an access point because I already have a commercial grade firewall. If you do this, you can put the product in bridging mode, which gives you an additional inside gigabit Ethernet port, but you lose most of the extra functionality, such as USB ports.
Overall, it's definitely worth the money. I haven't seen anything better near this price.

The use as this router without using storage works fine. Was able to initially connect the USB 3

Has issues using USB 3.0 with Western Digital My book 4TB hard drive.
The use as this router without using storage works fine. Was able to initially connect
the USB 3.0 hard drive to router and load up the drive with data from windows 10, XP and Vista PC's
no problem. However, within hours the drive is not noticed on any PC and not accessable.
Been working with TECH support from Linksys and WD. The WD drive works fine when attached
direct to any PC. Issue is it seem neither vendor does integation testing with each others product nor
idents in their requirements other than both are USB 3.0 of any any integration issues. Still trying to decide
which device I need to return and what I need to buy to date available to my network using AC tri band wireless router
4TB USB 3.0 hard drive....... Bottom line No plug and play but plug and pray....

If you are buying this for the external storage feature, don't waste your time.

Solid router, user friendly interface, but for the external storage, which is what I bought this for, it is not compatible with any externals I have, and there is not a "compatible devices list" to be found. I have tried two Seagates, a Kingston, and the only thing I have been able to get to work at all is a 32 GB Corsair jump drive. Seriously people, you shouldn't even advertise it as having that capability if it isn't compatible with manufacturers with some of the largest market share, and I am not going to start buying random brands of externals on the off chance I may get lucky and find one that actually works. I was wanting to use it as an external store for OS images since I do a bit of sandboxing....whelp, looks like that isn't going to be happening any time soon. I have checked the firmware, external formatting, forums, tech support, nada, nothing, no help. You disappoint me Linksys.
