My 13 month old Nutone Door Bell stopped working, started smelling like an electrical fire, and got too hot to touch! Was probably damaged during installation. I took the front off and disconnected the two wires going to it, and it cooled down. Now what to do? Call the contractor who built the house and complain? (But, his warranty expired at a year.) Call a service guy and pay $200 to $300 to have him replace it? No!
Instead, went to Amazon and found the exact replacement part for $34.99 (free shipping with Prime membership) and installed it myself. Two days later all is good.

I just used the guts on this to replace the guts of a c.1957 doorbell that was no longer working. Successful transplant, works fine.
Change out the push button also

worked well for 3 months, then started humming...Turned out to be the button, which I hadn't replaced. Lesson learned..

Mail man blew up our old one and this is a contractor grade replacement. Not as easy to find as I thought they would be but my friend Amazon came through. Exact match and fit just fine.
