but I've done tests and these lights are perfect, as long as you keep them at 100%

I'm a stop motion animator and I finally switched to LED lights because they are cooler and cheaper to maintain. I've heard that LEDs can flicker when used to long exposure, but I've done tests and these lights are perfect, as long as you keep them at 100%. Dimming below 100% may create a slight flicker. Anyway, love these lights and love the price. They are even pretty sturdy considering. I have a pair and am about to order another pair!
great product for price

Great light for the price! It's lightweight, doesn't get hot, has awesome magnetic gels and gets the job did! We are filming a tv pilot right now and we have no reason to buy anything more pricey. This is a great product for the price.
Working well so far.

I have only used these a couple of times, but they have worked well so far. I do wish there was a softbox mount for them, but I don't think that is a deal breaker either. Overall a fair productfor the price.
Very solid, very nice...

I work in the film and television industry. I am currently working on "Good Behavior" for TNT television and had these (4 of them) shipped to my office at Screen Gems Studios in Wilmington, NC. I feel I must state, before this review, that I ordered these lights for personal use and in no way is TNT endorsing this product. I am simply presenting my career info as a "qualifier" before I begin...
The lights arrived quickly and were expertly packaged for shipping. Each light came in its own cardboard box with tight fitting styrofoam corners suspending the light inside that box. Then, each set of two light boxes was packed inside another box. And those two larger boxes were packed inside a larger box yet! You couldn't ask for a better packing job!
The lights come pre-assembled with the barn doors intact, a power cord (grounded with 3rd round prong), a small plastic bag containing the light-stand adapter, a replacement fuse taped to the styrofoam corner (don't throw away!), and three magnetic-corner color temperature gels (frosted diffusion, tungsten, and daylight). The gel system is GENIUS as you can instantly change the color temperature by connecting the heavy plastic gel to the front of the light using the small button magnets on each corner of the gel.
As I was showing these lights around to my fellow television coworkers and they were really impressed! In fact, several asked me for the direct link so that they can purchase a set as well. We turned off the lights in the locations department office an illuminated the room (about 20 x 20) pretty nicely with a single light. Later, I practically blinded a few people in the art department office because they stared directly at the LEDs for a moment. Now, please understand that a single light would NOT be sufficient for filming in rooms of these size, but it was pretty darned bright. I wish that ePhotoInc had posted a little more data on the total lumens of this light as I can only guess right now. However, it's quite bright.
Strangely, there is no "branding" on these lights. No logos. No company name. No model number. No identifiers of ANY kind that I can see. It does make these lights a bit difficult to inventory if you need to do so. It also makes them hard to identify if stolen, etc... The lights don't come with any paper documentation, specifications, internal schematics, or instructions. Basically, you just need to know what your doing to use them. Also, I don't see a UL safety logo, wattage overload warning, or any other type of "official" sticker that you find on most new gear. Hmmmmm.
In the film industry, the future of LED lighting is just now taking hold. One of the great things about LED lights is that they use very little electricity and generate very little heat. I have literally had actors and models pouring sweat (even nude ones) under hot studio lights! It can be miserable! With these, your room will stay nice and cool. Also, with older traditional light kits, once turned off, they remain burning hot for a long time. Also, if you move traditional lights too quickly after turning them off, the lamp's hot filament will sometimes break! Not a problem with these!
So, my initial impression is that these are great for the money. They are quite bright but have their limitations in wide spaces or outdoors. They seem to be best for close filming or as additional fill light. These would be PERFECT for on camera interviews, documentary shoots, and short film projects. The dimmer pot allows for a nice range of varied light intensity. Only time will tell and if I have any LEDs burn out soon, I'll update this post.
ePhotoInc - it would be nice to see a few accessories for these lights. Perhaps a honeycomb light grid that would attach to the magnetic corners!

more famous and built better? Of course you can
goushi✓ Verified Purchase•July 3, 2023
Ok...here's the situation...you need LIGHT, but don't happen to be a millionaire. Can you spend LOTS of money on light kits/heads that are more powerful, more famous and built better? Of course you can! However, if you're a one man show or a non profit like a school or church who needs dependable light without breaking the bank...this is a DEAL! I originally purchased a pair of these for LESS than $225 for the pair...I liked them so much, I bought ANOTHER pair a couple of months later. I have a small green screened studio up in the second floor loft of my house for doing instructional internet videos. These work perfectly; lightweight, well made and versatile. You can vary the output and each unit comes with magnetic color covers (tungsten, daylight and diffusion). Nice carry handle and quality, enameled aluminum barndoors (not those cheesy foil-covered, cardboard barndoors you find on lots of brands much more expensive). No, you can't run them on battery power out in the field and they don't come with their own travel case, but once again, you're not popping $500-600 a head here, either. And don't expect to light a Porsche with only two of them. The output is really GREAT for what they are, but be reasonable in your expectations. I also like the fact that they are LED and run COOL. To summarize: powerful lights with quality build and nice accessories, AC
