I was very satisfied with this item

I was very satisfied with this item, but now after 10 months the paint starts disappearing on the top side - don't understand how this can happen with such a solid brand
Damaged can, then wrong can???

I ordered the stainless steel step can. It arrived damaged and I promptly returned it. The replacement was not at all what I ordered. This one is the rose gold motion sensor one. I am not returning again because I don't have time to deal with this. The rose gold is beautiful, but if it doesn't hold up like reviews say...expect another return at a later date. I'm not sure we like the sensor idea as it's just one more thing to break, which is why I ordered the step can. Your shipping people really need to pay better attention to detail. Maybe my stars will increase if it turns out I love this can, but right now I am not thrilled. To spend so much on a can for garbage and be inconvenienced further?
Great and annoying

Mixed bag honestly. I love the size, the fitted bags, the bag dispenser, the lid design, and how easy it is to clean the interior. It is a great unit that I believe will last years.
I dislike how the lid hydraulics aren't attached to the lid and how the lid operates. If you lift the lid with your hand, which isn't the easiest thing to do, it will just drop back down. If you want a slow closing lid, you have to use the pedal slowly. If you use the pedal quickly, the lid will just drop back down.
The finish looks nice, but it's thin, easily scratched and dented. I had some sauce on my garbage can, when I wiped at it with a wet paper towel, it scratched the finish. Yes, a wet paper towel scratched the finish. When I set a bag of groceries on it, it dented the lid. Its my fault for doing it, but it seems really fragile.
OMG the cost. $180 for a garbage can is a lot. At this price, I guess you're ordering a showpiece. You need to treat it as you would a lamp or something else fragile and mainly for looks. I would prefer a model that is half the cost and plastic.

Good enough, mainly nice looking

Just received my white trash can. It's expensive for a trash can but it does come with a 10 yrs Warrenty. The foot pedal and top lid is actual plastic with a metal cap. The mechanism is mostly plastic with some metal on key area, wonder how long that will work? 140$ is steep but it look nice. I had their old plastic one that cost $50, that only last 1 year because of the cheap plastic hindges. Huge disappointment, but I gave them a second try anyways to see if the more expensive one is worth it. It's somewhat worth it for now, only time will tell. The actual bin, pedal cover, top cover, and metal push rod is steel. Everything else is plastic, yes most of the mechanical mechanism is plastic which is sad. If you can find a steel bin with steel mechanical, get that but if you dont, this should be fine to use. I only hope they won't be a pain when I need to use the Warrenty , got a feeling it won't last that 1 years.

I never imagined I would spend so much for a trash can - in fact, I had buyer's remorse as soon as I hit the one-click button. Think about it, though. I spend my life in a 1br/1 ba with room for only one trash can. It's something I see several times a day. I'd rather see this than its predecessor, a $10 Rubbermaid that somehow always had food dribbling from the edges and had to be hosed out weekly.
I use this with regular 13 gallon garbage bags. I have arthritis in my fingers, so inserting a new bag is painful at times, but that probably goes with the territory. I laughed when I read some reviews saying this holds more than a regular 13-gallon bag, because science would suggest otherwise. It seems to! I have no facts to support this.
For those complaining that they could do without the liner bag at the back (and the added depth) - look at it sideways (see my pic). The door hinges are what cause the added depth, not the bag liner storage. That's because the bin itself is devoted to just holding the garbage.
I love that the bag storage system hides the edges of the garbage bag from view. I have been told that it's also good at stifling smells. I have no sense of smell, but I hope so. My Rubbermaid certainly didn't.
Think about it: If you're about to spend $5,000 on a kitchen renovation, this is small change. It makes my small kitchen look a million bucks better and work a lot better too.
Update: I caved and bought the Simple Human trash bags, and I'm, er, glad. They're easier to fit on the bin, they're designed to disappear under the rim, and they seem to be better quality than the Glad bags I'd been using. I've yet to see one of the bags spring a leak from something sharp-edged in the trash - the Glad bags often did. Everyone knows what a hassle it is when the trash bag starts falling apart as you're racing it to the garbage chute/wheelie bin.
