Our story is similar to so many other dog owners here. The cone was such a frustrating experience for both our dog and us. Our home has stairs, wearing a cone was a problem for our dog after a blister he got on the top split open and was bleeding. This was only 5 days and we felt so bad for him. Unable to maneuver up or down stairs, turn corners, and avoid bumping into furniture. Fast forward two weeks later, his scheduled crypto-orchid neutering came up and we wanted something that would provide him with more comfortable recovery experience.

We researched soft cones, while those afforded a better sleep experience for the entire family, it was even worse with peripheral vision than the semi transparent hard plastic cones. Let's not even talk about trying to eat or sniff his way to potty.

Then we stumbled upon recovery suits. There are few makers on the market but we felt this one had the best reviews and feedback. Plus it would alleviate all the downsides of the cone, well maybe.

PROS: more comfort, no interference to vision or eating, drinking and face licking! Complete torso coverage from collar to hind quarters. Room for tail. Stretchy fabric for non restricted movement. Snaps on the rear like an infant's onesie for ease of nature breaks and removal.

CONS: as expected, was a hair magnet and catcher. While there is a belly pouch to put in an absorbent pad, the stretchy fabric is what is in contact with your dog's peepee so guess what? It get pretty filthy, pretty quickly. If there was a way to have the absorbent pad come in direct contact to the dog instead of the recovery suit, that would allow extended wearing instead of having to buy more than one to have one clean and one to wear. A little pricy for what it is but what it does makes it worth it. While this may prevent direct licking to wounds, it won't stop an aggressive chewer as the fabric is similar to workout stretch fabrics.

OVERALL: Recommended for those not wanted to have their dog go through wearing a cone. Our overall experience was favorable. When choosing the size, look at the MAXIMUM recommended size when picking. This suit is meant to be snug, not baggy or too tight. So measure twice and look at the chart three times.

I purchased this in size Small for my 18 pound mini Aussie who is going to be neutered soon and it fits him perfectly, not too small and not too big. He measured 18.5 inches from collar to tail base.
Update 10/25/17: So my dog was neutered yesterday and the vet tech put the Suitical on him before I took him home...she was impressed and said to let the clinic know if it works as it might be a good option for dogs who can't tolerate a cone....well, I'm happy to report that after 24 hours he has not bothered the surgical area at all. I wondered if he would try to lick through the suit but he hasn't tried at all...slept comfortably through the night and it's easy to unsnap for potty breaks. I am very happy about the Suitical and definitely recommend it as an alternative to the cone.
Goodbye panties!

This is GREAT: Suitical Recovery Suit. For any dog after surgery and when a girl is in season (like my Hannah). Sooo much better than panties-- especially if your dog has no tail to help hold panties in place. Think of a (human) baby 'onesie' outfit. Slip over the head and front paws. Snaps securely high on hips. Has ability to hold a belly chill pack and you can stick pantyliners--anywhere inside--to absorb blood and other fluids. We intend to use these suits next year when Hannah is expected to be spayed. No need for 'cone of shame' - supposedly! To go potty without removing the suit, simply unsnap and roll/tuck carefully toward mid chest. In this way, we didn't even need to remove the absorbent pads (we had added) but just folded them inwards on themselves as we rolled/folded the suit to expose her bottom. When your pet comes back inside, just unroll the suit to full length again and re-snap.
My dog is wearing this without problems

I bought this for my German Shepherd after neutering. His wound took extra long to heal, and he was getting quite unruly and hurting everything and everybody with his plastic e-collar.

I was afraid he'd either just rip this suit, but everything has gone well. His wound is pretty healed now, but I still want him to leave it alone. When I first put the suit on, he refused to move and kept giving me dirty looks. After a bit, he seemed to forget about the suit and started acting normal. He hasn't tried to rip it, or even lick through or around it.

It was relatively easy to put this on. I got a few murderous looks when putting the second front leg through the hole, buty the material is stretchy enough to not make it hard. The collar rolls pretty far down too, so he won't get too hot. When he needs to go to the bathroom, it is easy to roll the back of the suit up and use a little strap to keep it secured. Very fast to snap it closed again. He is not bothered by the suit at all.

I hope I don't need it much longer, or even in the future, but quite happy I bought it. Not sure if the suit would have been enough protection during the first weeks, when the wound was not fully closed and started to itch, but during this 'waiting-for-the-dissolving-stitches-to-dissolve-and-stop-getting-to-the-surface-and-creating-brown-goo' period, it works fine.

My shins, hubby's shins and a bunch of furniture are grateful!
This is an absolute must-have for any dog recovering from a spaying/neutering.

This suit is awesome. My Havanese was in a severe depression wearing the cone of shame as she couldn't eat out her bowl, play with toys or sleep comfortably. After doing a bit of research and even trying one of those "soft" cones (which was exactly the same as the plastic cone in terms of my dog absolutely hating it), I came across these suits and am so thankful I did. It fits like a glove, it's easy to unsnap so that my dog can go to the bathroom, and there is absolutely no way my dog can lick the incision from her spaying while wearing this (see picture). Do not waste your money on the softer cones, inflatable collars, etc. Buy this first and both you and your dog will be thankful you did. It is truly a sanity saver.
