First time poster.... successfully cut my ...

First time poster.... successfully cut my second bottle but failed on the next three. Applied very little pressure to score the glass then used a plumbers torch ($25 - Lowes) and ice bath. Heated for 60-90 seconds and the glass popped off. You might have to do it more than once but works well. Hope this helps out....
A Pricey "Next Step" set up

I bought this set after first trying out a less expensive kit that gave me everything I needed to get started. This verticle setup is a little more challenging to keep your bottle aligned and get a straight cut, but it works nicely. The cutter actually pops out of its socket if you aren't careful in adjusting it and that can be a pain. I'm planning to use these in community Trash to Art workshops and my first event was kid's summer camp where 10-12 year olds had a great time trying this out. The top cutter is really helpful but I'm not sure what to do with the rest of it (especially the big rubber bands) and there are no instrucations included. In 4 groups of kids we didn't have a single drop of blood and the kids had a great time. This kit is really expensive so if you're just starting out I'd suggest going with a set that includes everything (sandpaper) and instructions, then moving on to this if you decide you really need to be able to cut the tops off your bottles.
A good bottle cutter.

Works well when you use the candle techniques shown on youtube.
My 10 year old started a business using this cutter and has her Crafts are being sold in a local store.
She uses GLOVES and EYE PROTECTION every time.
When glass is cut, you will get shards chipping and POPPING off.
Keep your face away from the bottles and wear protection.
A face shield for a beginner is not over kill.
I worked at a glass shop for years and trained and guided her when she was learning.
Quality is good, I would have loved to see it made of all metal and rubber instead of plastic.
But, that said, it has held up well so far.

Awesome for wine bottle project

I cannot rate this high enough. I am NOT a crafty kind of person. I wanted to cut the bottom of some wine bottles so I could place them over a small light and have the light show through them - a lamp. I had tried small string lights and things but the bottles are painted and very dark and that just didn't work. I tried a different bottle cutter but I could not cut as low on the bottle as I wanted and it was harder to use. I just wanted to cut as near the bottom as possible so the bottle was left intact. I made a perfect cut the first try. I was impressed that this worked. The recommended video from the manufacturer helped to understand how to separate the glass pieces after the cut is made. Pretty simple to do. The only thing I would recommend is the part where the say to place a mark on the glass for the start/end point. With a dark bottle, a mark with a sharpie doesn't show very well. Using a mark with fingernail polish or a small post it or something is much easier to see. Otherwise 5 stars from me the clumsy non-crafty happy user!
One great Bottle Cutter.

I researched bottle cutters for a long time and I'm glade I bought this one. Not every bottle comes out perfect but you get better with practice. They tell you that up front. Very well built and easy to use. Well worth the higher price compared to other cutters. You get what you pay for. I'm very happy.
