My favorite paring knife.
J. Lin•November 8, 2017
This is the second Shun paring knife I've bought - because I so loved the first one, but it was abused by others who share my kitchen - they used it to pry things and hack bones. I'm hiding this one away so that it won't suffer the same fate. Its sharp, balanced and such a pleasure to use to cut fruits and veggies.
Nice size and shape for me

Nice size and shape for me. The build is basic but well made. It has a full hidden tang (Except for the fact that it sits flush with the heal of the handle.) It has no heal cap but that's fine. For the money? It's worth it to see if you like Japanese knives. If they aren't your thing then you're not how nearly as much as if you bought one of their other knives.
If you do not need NSF on your knife, this is a steel for the home.Oooooh so smooth, one cut ready!Eat better,Shin knifes, rock!

Kai makes this, so I ,am familiar with D shape handle. This is a nice shape. The blade is elegant and restrained. This is a real challenge to find hand position and grip.Food doesn't stand a chance with this over acheiver. The right hand position is technique paramount. This is shark tooth ready.I have a couple Edo paring, and with this ,the next is 3 1/2 inch Shun Kai classic.Maybe another limited edition model will be available?

So very worth the money. Get the whole set. You'll love them. Sharper than a razor and the blade is hard enough to the edge.
... a couple other Shun knives in the kitchen and love them. We rarely use pairing knives

We have a couple other Shun knives in the kitchen and love them. We rarely use pairing knives, so we figured we'd get this one as it was fairly inexpensive.
It's ok. It's not like our other Shuns where they slice vegetables like a light saber through Luke's arm. Good for general kitchen work, but if you're trying to make fancy vegetable animals, you may want to step up to a more expensive knife.
