Gets dirty fast

I liked very little about this fountain. The main advantage is it's easy to take apart, the water doesn't stay up top to pool it just streams around the flower slowly, the biggest problem I have is the filter pad in the top got moldy and gross real fast , in about a week. I will add a pic , I am very disappointed and will have to order a different fountain. And I had no luck cleaning the filter so I guess if you wanted to keep using it you just have to put a new filter in every week or so, I would like to add I am filling the fountain with filtered water also from a Brita pitcher .
Cats love it, and how to avoid the filters!

Your cat(s) will seriously love this fountain. At one point, I had to clean out the fountain, since the filter had to be replaced and after I left a bowl of water for my cats, they were still persistent and clawed at the fountain because that's the only place they wanted water from!
Now onto the negative, my big and only gripe: the filters which forced me to knock off 2 stars. I cannot stand the propriety filters that cost $12 for a 2 pack, and have to be changed out every month(3-4/wks). That's $72 a year, for a $20-$30 piece of equipment.
My solution? Just use coffee filters, or even napkins! My cats have always drank straight tap water and are perfectly fine with it, and many others including vets will also tell you it's safe. You could easily just go and also buy one of those $10 PUR/Brita faucet filters to take it one-step further. The biggest reason I really see a need for a filter is to catch any hairs or debris that might try to fall into the fountain. I've had no issues so far.
Also if your concerned about that gunky stuff that builds in up in the fountain, don't be. It builds up even with the official Catit filter, and I found myself constantly cleaning it before. So far, I've actually noticed that with the coffee filters there isn't as much. Maybe I had a defective filter before, not entirely sure what's up with that.
As far as how often do you change the coffee filter, I suppose when you see it start getting dirty, but even if you wanted change it out everyday, a 350 pack of filters costed me $5. That's enough for a new filter everyday of the year instead of $72+taxes!

Almost perfect. A minor modification makes it great for us!

Almost perfect. The flower is too low for our cat. He'd gotten addicted to putting his head under the faucet and letting the water run down his face and then drink it. Weird but it worked for him. Initially it was funny and cute, but he got really insistent about it and it became obnoxious. So we had to figure out a solution. This looked like a good one and so we tried it. SO GLAD we did. He immediately knew it it was for him, but he couldn't get his face under the flower. So I fixed it. At the hardware store, I found a plastic pipe extender that tapers on both ends and is the same exterior diameter to that of the flower stem where it inserts into the unit (the hole also tapers). I supergluded this to the base of the stem and now the flower is high enough for him to use it the way that makes sense to his weird little brain. :)
UPDATE: 7/24/2017 - it's been running more or less nonstop now for seven months. We got a kitten a few months ago and he likewise figured it almost instantly and it became his preferred drinking fountain too.
I've seen negative reviews that said the pump stops working. So far it hasn't here. Knock on wood.
I don't do much to it beyond common sense maintenance. When the water supply is low, I can tell because I can increasingly hear the water return as it falls from the green bowl back in to the base. (not unpleasant, but noticeable).
When I hear that - every 3-4 days - I unplug the USB connector from the wall charger, take the green bowl off and rinse the bucket well before refilling it.
Less frequently, I rinse the green bowls filter with hot water. (it rarely seems to need it)
I never let the water supply drop so low as to have the pump run dry.
I saw a negative review that talked about the wall plug getting hot.
I haven't noticed that myself, but it uses a standard USB wall charger so presumably I'll be able to swap that out for another (who doesn't have three of them a drawer right? lol) if that should start happening :)

New, smaller pump is garbage!

I bought this to replace our old Catit that we had for years and years. We loved our CatIt, but on the last washing, soap got directly into the pump and we couldn't get it rinsed properly. We just had soapy, bubble water.
Reasons I love the Catit design over other drinking fountains:
1. No leaks
2. Easy to take apart to clean
3. Filters are a good price
4. Did I mention NO LEAKS? :)
This particular Catit has the flower attachment which can be taken off if you would like the standard Catit function. This Catit also has a different (smaller) pump than the original Catit.
The reason that this got 3 stars: the pump is garbage. The pump is LOUD. Really loud. Annoying loud. Scares my cat loud. (I tried to take a video to represent the noise but Amazon didn't allow me to post a video.)
This pump also doesn't have enough power like the original model. If you want to use the fountain without the flower attachment, the water doesn't even flow over the surface. (See photos)
Overall, I do recommend the Catit for its design. BUT the pump on this model is awful.

**VIDEO REVIEW SHOWS HOW TO TAKE APART & CLEAN THE CATIT FLOWER FOUNTAIN**
I decided to add a video to my review (excuse the zillion times I say "uh") showing you how the Catit Flower Fountain comes apart and is cleaned since there wasn't one available and I know that was my biggest deciding factor in buying a fountain. Hopefully, it's of use to some of you.
Like most of you, I did a lot of research before buying my first cat fountain. I noticed that the biggest complaint people had was how difficult they were to clean. Second was how quickly they'd burn through the motors. I've had the Catit Flower Fountain for a year now and still love it as much as the day I bought it. It's really easy to clean (I clean and change the water out once a week) and I've had zero motor issues. Plus, it was one of the cheapest fountains available and it's pretty darn cute. My two cats love it - I can't recommend it enough. Don't waste your money on those high priced fountains. Try this one! Believe me, you'll thank me for it.
