Auto-unlock doesn’t always work. Possible to get locked out

We've been using this lock for a few months now, and liked the ease and convenience initially. As time went by, we realized that the Auto Unlock doesn't always work - in fact it works around 50% of the time. That alone would not qualify for one star, but right now as I'm writing this review I'm locked out of the house because August refuses to connect to my phone. For a device that is supposed to make house keys optional - this is a big fail. If I can't rely on August to let me in every time reliably, I don't see the point of using it.

August totally stopped working 3 das ago. It just wouldn't connect now, even after following the trouble shooting steps and deleting and reinstalling the app. I now use my key to unlock, making August absolute garbage

I am really skeptical if this item is truly new and not refurbished. The rubber bumpers were already attached to the single mounting plate which contradicts what the instructions say. There was a new product sticker over an old sticker on the outside of the box. The instructions also mention 3 mounting plates and 3 lock adapters come with the unit. It appears a single universal mounting plate is now being shipped with the 2nd generation units, replacing the need for 3 separate plates...with no mention of this in the instructions. It's a neat toy. App is OK. We'll see in 6 months if it still works.

Took a few false starts, but I got it working and it's great. Very quick to respond, I can control it with the app connecting directly to the device, and it automatically connected to my Apple TV HomeKit setup and now I can control it remotely with my iPhone or Apple Watch from anywhere. Whenever the door unlocks I get a notification, I touch it, then when I'm ready to lock or unlock the HomeKit app is ready. The August app is a bit slower, but overall it's pretty slick.
Battery usage seemed to be an issue at first. I replaced the out of the box batteries almost immediately, then had to replace the second set within a couple of weeks. However, it's been fine since and the current set has been working fine after months of pretty heavy usage. It does take a bi of fiddling to get it physically lined up so perhaps I had some binding that was stressing the motors at first.

The August has been a game changer for me. I use it for AirBnB guest, dog walker, cleaning people, friends and family. It as super easy to install and I had it up and running with the August Connect within minutes. My favorite feature is being able to review the activity log, I use this to monitor everyone coming and going. I've been able to manage my dog walker and cleaning people in regards to the amount of time they are suppose to provide.
The great feature with the August Connect is allowing someone at my door to enter while I'm miles away. I love that just today I received an email alerting me that my batteries are at about 20% life, time to swap out the batteries.

Perfect for apartments

This lock has made going in and out of our third floor apartment so easy! I don't have to get my keys out to unlock it especially when my hands are full of groceries or boxes. I have it set to open when I near the door. I know when someone comes in and out of the door. All in all I love it. This is the only lock that I could use that allowed the leasing office access with their master key. They don't see anything different on the outside of the door. It is great.
