DEFECTIVE PRODUCT but allegedly corrected by manufacturer. GOOD customer service (call via web site)
Doris Hartog✓ Verified Purchase•September 30, 2017
DEFECTIVE PRODUCT: Had 3 pack, only two worked.CANNOT RECOMMEND. Repairman suggested inline (cheaper) water filter at water inlet as off brands not reliable. Agreed ridiculously expensive from manufacturer. Can use much cheaper in line filter on water supply and ignore "˜proper' filter. (Mine could placed on wall since doesn't go all the way back because need forward enough for door to open.) I don't think pulling refrigerator out every 6 months (to clean behind also) any worse than prone on floor changing filter. BUT should remove bottom front to vacuum up dust on heat diffuser. Also DO NOT use any similar product that comes without plastic protective cap on can (not just wrapped in plastic). Doesn't adequately protect filter without it (i.e. seals and cleanliness. plastic gets in hole, etc.). This one has the cap.
Another 'tip': my fan motor stopped working, detected when edge at seal too hot. Used regular fan with cardboard type back of refrigerator removed to cool compressor until repaired. Repairman said backing (cardboard type thing) needs to be in place for fan (repaired part) air to properly cool compressor.
For those who insist on no change in system, I found filter difficult to remove after 6 months. Repairman suggested coating with vegetable oil (only use edible lubricant) even though is lubricated. I also found using wrong end (handle) of medium or large channel lock pliers helped give enough leverage to turn plastic on filter end (part of refrigerator floor grate) without breaking it.
FOLLOW-UP. CALLED SELLER: Apparently manufacturer had "˜problems' during time of my purchase in 2016. Allegedly problem found and quickly fixed. Have been promised a free replacement. Will not change current one that is working, but was good customer service. Haven't yet checked other water filters placed in line as suggested to me (above) but remains an alternative, especially if like mine where has a ready connection. Am friends with and awaiting reply from plumber although think I need only opinion and ultimately IS DIY type project.

Not sterile

One of the 2 filters was opened, the sterilized sticker was cut and it was possibly used. It was not sealed and already had installed sticker on it.
Why pay more.......

This was a great buy. The water taste great! It is so expensive buying the name brand. This is the second set of off brand filters that we have bought. Fit perfectly for my Kenmore side by side. I would recommend these to my best friend to save money.
Made my water taste worse!
Robert G Taylor•September 17, 2016
There is no way the other positive reviews on this product are legitimate. This was the first time I tried this specific product/supplier and, not exaggerating in the slightest, it made the water taste worse. Don't be lured in by the low price! Not only did our water still have the strong chlorine taste/smell that Seattle water often has, it had an additional metal taste the filter added. Wanting to give the company the benefit of the doubt, I tried a second filter out of the 3-pack thinking maybe the first one was a production anomaly...it was just as bad. My kids actually stopped drinking the fridge water coming from these filters. At first I didn't tell the kids I changed the filter and my oldest took her first drink and said "yyyuuuuckkkkk! What's wrong with the fridge water?" (and it had been properly flushed). I used to sell water filters so I know that at least basic filtration to remove the chlorine smell/taste is quite simple and pretty standard so I suspect something nefarious is going on with this distributor/manufacture. I was tempted to cut the filter open to see what was, or wasn't, going on inside but I figured that might nullify my return. So for now we are drinking unfiltered tap water and bottled water until my replacement, old brand, filters arrive.
Thirsty?
Sandra M. M.•August 10, 2016
When we bought our house it came with an older model side by side refrigerator. It was clean, worked well, and I didn't feel the need to buy something new. However, I wanted to replace the filter. I had no idea when or if the previous owner had kept up on the filter maintenance. The red indicator light showed it needed to be taken care of. Filters are expensive, so I started researching Amazon to see if I could find a "generic" at a better price. I also prefer to order stuff online; it's just easier. I was pleased when I came across this item and the price was right. I double checked the number on the old filter before I placed my order. The package arrived quickly and the filter looked exactly like the old one. It installed really easily with no issues. I have not experienced any leaking. I have not noticed a strange taste or weird offensive odor to my water, as others have mentioned. I have well water, so who knows if that makes some kind of a difference; I don't have the added chemicals cities put in their water supply to begin with. The ice maker is producing clear, tasteless ice cubes. And I am thinking the cubes aren't sticking together like they did before? Maybe I have just been examining them more closing. Anyway, I have had a positive experience and would recommend this seller and the refrigerator filters.
