I purchased this and installed it so we could move the litter and feeding area to our laundry room. I purchased the regular sized one but actually received the XL one. I didn't want to go through the hassle of returning it and waiting so I just stuck with the XL one. Install was super easy, I rented an electric jig saw from Home Depot, took the door off then hinges, cut the hole, and popped this on. Since the XL one was larger than we wanted, we put it lower on the door than its normally supposed to be and cut off about 2" or so on the bottom of the cat door on each side. The laundry room door is visible from our kitchen area, this cat door looks much nicer than any of the other cat doors out there. Aside from receiving the wrong size, I would recommend this item.

Both my cats fit but when one was up to 16 pounds it was a tight fit for her. She is now 14 pounds and need to be 12 pounds. They both use this all the time. I used my Dremel and it circle cutting attachment and then it's rotary blade on the bottom to make a better hole that fits pretty closely to the actual shape. The template is way off!!! I also glued (and painted) two additional support so the door surface will not flex. I added some cut plastic pieces to the bottom of the door to prevent the insert from rotating once installed since the slots allow this to occur. I used cardboard underneath as I was working. Picture are not in order.

Love this door! It's adorably cute. As many other reviewers have mentioned, the tape pieces are junk, don't bother using them. We wound up gluing it to the door and it stays just fine. Also (as others have pointed out), the template for the hole is too big; however, with a little smarts this is very easy to overcome. Kitty loves it. We're planning to get more for different doors in the house so she has access and the dog won't.

This thing is super cool. We got it for a basement door where the cat box and food are stored. we had a kids gate with a pet door there prior but the whole look was not that desired. We saw this and thought what the hell lets give it a try. The product came super quick, amazing that two round pieces of composite molding can make that much of a statement. The job was super easy as I have a jig saw. Thank you to all the people that mentioned the template was to big. I took everyone's advice and used the opening as a template. worked great. Cat loves it, cuts down on the "cat smell" everyone happy!

Love it. Actually decided to use it as a pass through from bedroom wall into a hall closet. It looks awesome and my cat loves using it. When there is a house full of company and grand dogs, she can easily use her new potty in privacy!!! It eliminated cutting holes in the hall doors !! We added shelving above the litter box to provide additional storage for off season items. Great purchase
