I believe that the seal is bad in the first tank that I tried which allowed ...

Make sure you use soapy water to check connections. I first ordered a Weber hose and regulator when I received it, it was leaking behind the black knob that screws on to the tank, but Amazon stands behind their products so I ordered another hose and regulator. I was using kids bubble soap and it did not show the leak, but I could hear gas escaping. I got some water with dish detergent and with that solution it blew some big bubbles.
After ordering the Char-Broil hose and regulator 5184667 I still had a leak. I went a got another thank that I had and it did not leak with that tank. I believe that the seal is bad in the first tank that I tried which allowed gas to escape out the back of the connector. I still believe that water and dish detergent is much better at showing leaks than Kids bubble soap. This works fine on my Weber Silver-B grill.

Picked up a lava rocks grille being thrown out. They don't make them anymore and frankly, I think they grill stuff far better than the newer grilles with little metal tents -- "radiative cooking." Anyway, the regulator had failed. This was a cheap and good repair.

So you need to know this. Newer regulators have a safety feature. To light the grill, turn the flame control knobs off, open the lid of the grill, turn the regulator on, WAIT 5 seconds for the line to pressurize, THEN turn knobs on and ignite the grille.

If the burners are on when you turn on the regulator it senses a leak and shuts itself down. ALL newer regulators work this way.
Works great, and don't trust Char-Broil customer "support"

So my barely-used Char-Broil "Classic-C22G1" starts leaking gas from the regulator. I still have the owners manual with a prominently-displayed support phone number to call if you need help So naturally I call them to find out what replacement part I'll need. The rep makes a big deal of needing to know not just the model, but the specific serial no. of my unit, because nothing is standard and every unit is different. Then tells me it is impossible to buy just the hose & regulator (this item), it comes *only" as an assembly with new burners for about $65, and you have to disassemble and reassemble the burners, and there is no way to replace just the gas hose & regulator. So I get on Amazon and search around, and this part (labeled "universal" hose & regulator, and made by the Char-Broil company itself!) sure *looks* like what I need. For $10, it's worth a try. It fit perfectly.
Great regulator and hose for the price.

Great regulator and hose for unbeatable price. Reason for the four star rating is because it isn't quite universal in that it has only a female connection. If yours requires a male tip you have two options. If you have your old hose with the male connector, simply remove the male connector from the old hose and thread it into the new one. See photos. If you don't have male connector, you will need to pick one up at your local hardware store. Either way not a big deal.
Excellent replacement Name Brand

Bought this directly from Amazon and t works perfectly. The hose itself is of better quaility than the one I removed from grill. It is actually a bit longer than 20",that is just the black hose part. With the nut and regulator it is closer to 24" total.Seems that this is a standard size.
