Don't buy swedish, buy American.

Great tool. Stays sharp after lots of use. It seems like they've fixed their hardening issues.

It's a Council Tool pack axe. So, just top notch quality all around! Haven't found an American company that makes higher quality yet.

Removes material like a dream.
Great design, Poor execution

At this price I was expecting to get a tool that shows pride in craftsmanship. What I got was a tool with an overall lower level of fit and finish than axes in the $50 range. First, like another reviewer, I noticed there was nick in the edge of my brand new "premium" axe. The box was undamaged so I don't see how it could have happened in transit. It must have come that way from the factory. The next thing I noticed was a rushed and uneven grind on one side of the axe. This was annoying but I had just about talked myself into fixing these issues (which at this price point I should not have to do) when I noticed that the head was hung with a cant favoring the right side and the cheeks of the axe were noticeably of uneven proportions. Finally, the sheath I received had a poorly set rivets almost overlapping one another on one side and it came with marks in the leather. I had really high hopes for this axe as the design and features alone made it seem worth the asking price but the overall poor fit and finish gives me the impression of a tool that was rushed through production and given minimal attention to quality. In my experience this seems to be the norm with Council Tool products. They are a mass production operation with mass production quality standards selling axes at semi-custom prices. If this axe were in the in the same price range of their standard line I might be tempted to keep it and work with it but at a $140.00 price point I expect more.
Pure-Bred American Craftsmanship

The ultimate axe. Straight out of the box you're smacked in the face with proper grain orientation, hair shaving sharp on a 20 degree flat grind, tight fitting leather mask, hardened poll, and pure bred American craftsmanship. Made in USA, baby.
I've carved, felled, bucked, timber framed, and limbed with this axe. The slim 24 inch handle gives you reach but doesn't get in the way for up-close work. I have close to 60 axes, this bad boy is in the top 2 of my go to. This axe, simply put, is the do-it-all axe. Bushcraft, wood work, hunters companion, you name it. I don't know, I guess when you get down to it, I'm just simply in love. Butterflies and all.
