Great 1st drone/don’t fly too far up or away
CBDecember 25, 2017
Great beginner drone. It will be easily overpowered by minor winds. The camera works fine but it isn't HD. Great drone for the money.

**update**
I previously posted that winds would not bother too much and I am here to say they will. I found that I could only fly my drone first thing in the morning when the winds were zero/calm. Furthermore, the link between the copter and remote/phone breaks up easily causing the copter to become uncontrollable. Last night I was videoing and had a great flight only to realize on playback that the video only recorded pieces of the event and not the whole thing in steady flow. Now this morning, with no winds, I launched and got the craft airborne, all of a sudden my link disconnected and it flew off. It maintained altitude but flew away and then descended somewhere beyond my line of sight.

So my drone is gone. The video playback was great up until you see it turn heading and break loose. Video stopped and I assume that's when the link was disrupted.

I have decent experience in drones and own about four. If you purchase this, it is good for low level flying. If you ascend above the trees(which it can do) make sure you are able to descend it down immediately should connection start to become unstable.

I am going to contact holystone to see how they respond to this issue. Update soon.

My contact with Holy Stone was quick and painless. I explained the situation and after a follow up email they are taking care of me. Feel confident in your purchase of any Holy Stone products.

Maybe I just got a defective one but.... Had nothing but trouble pairing it to controller. Instructions are awful if not just incorrect, why can't they have an American English speaking drone enthusiast proof read them first. It would fly for 5-15 seconds then it would just shut down and crash.
Awesome toy, uh, I mean tool!

While cleaning up my side yard after Hurricane Irma, I found a piece of a broken shingle mixed in with my landscaping debris. (I was really lucky, as the extent of the damage we sustained was some broken branches and palm fronds.) I didn't make anything of it, since the piece was small enough to have been blown into my yard. I figured that, if it was mine, I'd see more pieces. Well, last week, while mowing the lawn, I found several other pieces of broken shingle. As I have a two-story house, I didn't want to climb up to see if that broken shingle was mine. I finally had justification for a drone.

I received the drone on Saturday, charged it on Sunday and used it yesterday, to check my roof. I was surprised to actually be able to fly this thing around the exterior of the house with zero experience! I'm not going to lie...I was a rookie pilot in a bit of wind, so the drone did end up in the trees twice, and once upside down in my neighbor's yard. (Speaking of which, boy, is that thing sturdy!) I'd spent most of my flight time learning how to fly the drone, so I was worried about the battery dying on me, while flying over the roof (potentially losing the drone on the roof and having to climb up anyway); therefore, I kept the flights short, but I had the comfort of knowing that I had a spare battery. I was absolutely ecstatic to find that the shingle was not mine, thanks to the super crisp video recorded by the drone.

I'm not big on toys, but I caught myself telling my boys not to touch "Daddy's toy." :D I wish the documentation was a little more thorough; for example, I don't know how to activate the altitude hold function, and (although I followed the instructions) I couldn't enable headless mode, but I was still able to manage. I'm going to keep practicing my flying; perhaps I can use the drone to record the kids' flag football games, next.

These are the types of products that truly frustrate me when I purchase on Amazon. What appears to be a great product, with tons of positive reviews turns out to be an overpriced piece of junk. I can only wonders whether the people giving 5 stars actually used this product, or quickly gave 5 Stars in order to receive the free battery offered for a positive review.

I have owned a much cheaper Holy Stone drone in the past. I have great things to say about that Drone. This product has several major faults. First, it is extremely light weight. Any movement of air/wind results in the drone becoming un-flyable. Second, the memory card slot broke within a few days of use rendering the complete camera unusable. Lastly, the most major fault is the controls on this drone. As many of the negative reviews have noted, the drone has the tendency to go crazy and not listen to commands. Within an hour of flying this, the drone took off, and landed in a tree. Fortunately, it was low enough that we could get it down. Later, the drone took off again, and landed in a much higher tree. At the time, we felt the drone would not be recoverable.

I will say that I give Holy Stone the company 5-stars for their support. When I called their support line, I got voicemail. Thinking I would try back later, I hung up. Within 5 minutes, I got a call back from support. That is unheard of! After telling them what had happened (and overcoming the English-Chinese language barrier), they offered me 50% off a replacement. When I said that was not acceptable, they shipped me a replacement at no charge.

After thinking about things, I do not think this drone, even if the controls worked well, and the camera did not break was worth anything more than $50. For this reason, I only give 1 star.

I will say that we were able to finally get the drone of the tall tree. We are happy to send this back as well if the manufacturer would like it. Otherwise, it will not be getting much use from us.
I like it but think I will be getting something else soon

Up front let me say that I am a novice and just getting into this. That could influence some of this. Overall I think it is a good flying toy and probably not a bad value. My biggest gripe is that it drifts a lot, even indoors with out the air conditioning running. I find that I must trim it up a lot right off the bat and that doesn't keep it stable for entire flight. Even though screws are really, really small, they went in fairly easy. Just pre-thread into landing gear and guards before attaching and it works well. Plugs and cables are also small and could be difficult for many to work with. Probably not avoidable. With a little effort it seems that replacing the battery could be easier and less prone to damaging the wiring. It isn't terrible just seems like it could be better. The clipping mechanism for the camera is not the best. if you bang into something it may become dislodged but the cabling should keep it attached but almost impossible to fly. I would consider redesigning it so that the WiFi and camera were not coupled together, maybe not practical but would be nice.

It seems pretty safe for a novice like me. I really liked that and was part of the reason I went with this model. I would have happily spent more money on a different product but the idea of high speed steel rotors while I was learning scared me a bit. I liked that I could fly it indoors without too much concern. I would of course have the propeller guards attached if you do that. It handled the inevitable crashes really well and I am not too concerned about destroying it while I am still trying to learn how to control it. I tried the flips and they were actually quite impressive.

As others have mentioned, lots of batteries are a must but once you have them charged you should be good to go for a fun evening. Again, too bad it is not a little easier changing the battery but I am sure it is much better than other options. Don't know for sure since this is my first venture into this kind of distraction. It got easier as I did it a few times but I still feel like it could be easier.

Would be OK for younger kids if not for the delicate parts. I am concerned I will damage the parts and suspect a younger child would be even more frustrated and probably destroy the battery and camera harnesses quickly. Of course with supervision they can have fun flying and you can take care of those details. They may still find the drift and constant need to retrim a bit aggravating since I know it is for me.

I am not impressed with FPV and the camera. It really didn't do it for me and have disconnected the camera and find it just as fun and easier to work with.

I did try flying it outside today and it wasn't really windy but any breeze combined with the natural drift of the product made it quite difficult and meant there was a lot of compensating actions all the time. I didn't find that much fun.

In conclusion, not a bad product and probably a good one to start on. I think many people like myself will outgrow it pretty quickly.
