These poles are a great value. They are sturdy enough to take some uphill and downhill rocky surface navigation. I have bad knees, so these are a savior when I'm hiking any type of terrain. Just make sure you adjust it properly.
Only downside for me is that the hand straps don't really stay taught when adjusted (to my tiny wrists).

Great Value for a Great Product

Summary: These poles are a great value for the price. I'm not sure why you would pay more when these poles worked flawlessly.
So I bought these poles ahead of a major road trip I was taking to the western US where I intended to do a lot of mini backpacking trips. These are my first set of trekking poles, so I don't have much to compare them to, but I can say that they never failed me once. It was amazing how much easier it felt to walk using these while carrying a 35 lb. pack up and down really rugged terrain. I used these to hike into and out of the grand canyon, across death valley, climb Guadalupe peak, and hike up the ice covered slopes in Yosemite among other things. They may not be the lightest of all trekking poles, but they really weren't bad and I wasn't interested in paying three times as much to shave off a quarter of the weight.
Bottom line: If you're looking at getting yourself your first set of trekking poles, I would definitely recommend these.

Bought these as "starter" poles. Wasn't sure I'd like using poles while hiking, I didn't want to spend a lot of money just to test it out. Definitely happy with this purchase. I've used these to climb two Adirondack High Peaks. I will never hike without trekking poles again. These particular poles seem pretty well made for the price. They're strong and lightweight. I actually bought two pair, one for me and one for my fiance. She loves hers as well. Good buy!

I bought these just to have an extra pair for visiting friends. I like the construction and the flip locks. I have the comfort grips and they feel fine. I could actually see myself using these instead of my Black Diamond Ellipticals except for one missing feature - comfortable straps. Since straps play such a major role when correctly using hiking poles, I would not use these on a multi-day backpacking trip. They'd be OK for a day hike, but nothing longer. If CMT would have spent another dollar or two for good straps, I would definitely give these a 5 star rating. I'm going to see if I can replace the straps with ones from Black Diamond.
A must have for hikers!

Great purchase!! We went hiking at Big Bend National Park for Spring Break and took these little gems. The height is adjustable, so they can be used by children and adults. My 8-yr old used them, I used them and my husband used them. The gift shop at the park sold this same product for twice the price. Would definitely recommend for a hike!
