Nice light but they do flicker when turning power on
Om✓ Verified Purchase•October 20, 2023
So far seems to be good but I did notice when I turn the lights on sometimes, they would flicker and shut off then a second or so later they will come on hopefully they will last only time will tell I will keep you posted as I used them more.09/09/2023 gave it another star for doing a pretty good job in growing my plants there is not a day that goes by that I see most plants pearl. and this a low-tech setup that I turned a reef tank into a planted freshwater tank. If this keeps up, I'll give it another star.
Good light for the money

This is the my second off these lights. First one lasted four years and then the power supply went out. The light still works with the power supply from my new light. Four years seemed like a decent value for the price paid to me. I have the timer as well and really like the light and timer. I have much more expensive lights on other aquariums and this one seems just about as good to me. Only real difference, you can't adjust the power levels like the more expensive ones. But that's over rated. Very good light for the money, my plants love it.
Not Bad, Could Be Better

I will start with what I like - It's a Perfect Fit with a small amount of room for adjustments. It is a great value BUT you really do need the Dimmer and Timer (Sold Separately) to really get the full benefit. Without the Dimmer it is all out - And the extreme brightness will cause an Algae Issue - Also you have to flip the switch from Daylight to Moonlight and yes, The Blue Moonlight is also extremely Bright. Once you add-In the Dimmer and Timer - That is when this Light Shines (No Pun Intended) - It's now Hands-Free, Timer works great BUT, you only have Two Programs which is what brings me to what I Don't Like - Ideally I would like to have three Programmable Modes to allow for a Sunrise (or at least Moonlight from a Dark Night (off)), Into Daylight, and then back to Moonlight. As-is, I have it programmed to come on Daylight at 6-AM / Off-8-PM, Switch to Moonlight at 8-PM and then Off at 1-AM. Also there should be an Option in the Programming for adjusting the Brightness of each Mode - I set the Dimmer Switch to Low when the Moonlight Phase comes on, so that also allows for a low light density in thee early 6-AM Daylight. Also, IF you turn the Dimmer off by accident and then back on, the Timer is affected / bypassed and will not return to your programming until the next mode / time occurs. As far as the Light itself, it's a Great Light and will go to a very high brightness if that is what is needed or desired - Mine is on a Twenty Gallon Freshwater Tank with No Plants only 2 Fiddler Crabs, 5 Snails, 1 Betta, Two Oranda's, Two Clown Pleco's - and they are all Thriving.
Good bang for the buck

I own 6 of these lights total in various sizes ranging from 24-48" and they have been working like a champ in the 2 years I have started using them. While they are not perfect and tend to warp across greater distances (particularly my 48" ones), they are a good value for the money when you need higher PAR lighting on a budget. Yes, they are bright and will grow algae quickly if CO2 and nutrients aren't balanced in proportion to the amount of light the tank is receiving. This is also why I install inexpensive PWM dimmers to all of my lights. Some of my shrimp tanks require much less light as these tanks only have moss and rhizome plants growing in there without supplemental CO2. I probably could have gotten away with using the less expensive "EA" version for those tanks but it's better to have more light in case I need it in the future. I can always dial down intensity with a turn of a knob... EZ PZ. It's like the old saying "better to have and not need than to need and not have". As far as complaints, I don't really have any. The price is hard to beat for this much lighting. I have heard from my fellow hobbyists that the power supplies tend to fail on these prematurely. Maybe I've just been lucky or the dimmers dialing down the wattage has somehow spared mine from this issue, I don't know. I do know that if one does die, it's easy enough to wire in another one. I do use a much larger 200 watt power supply connected to a programmable dimmer to power 5 separate lights.. 3 of which are beamswork brand but my other 3 beamsworks are the 48" ones and they are still using the original PSU without any issues. For an entry level high tech planted tank I would highly recommend these lights, especially over other brands like finnex or fluval... which I also own. If you need more PAR than these lights can put out then you probably need to step up to the 1 watt+ led diodes anyways, so you wouldn't likely reading these reviews anyways. haha For those looking to grow lower demand plants like buce, anubias or mosses, the EA model may be a better match.
good for the price

This light seems pretty awesome for the price. I got this one based on external reviews and my own comparisons.
Pros: Bright, has RGB Leds for full spectrum, night light mode with only blue leds on, body itself is solidly constructed and is sleek. Cord comes with a screw-together coupling and a branded external power converter.
Cons: - the glass is not sealed to the frame and has some wiggle room. not really a factor if its not moving around on the tank but the permeability over top a tank of water seems to be a short cut in construction. (product says its not water proof, but i wouldnt mind some humidity protection)
- the feet could be much better designed. they do not extend out far past the body of the light, so make sure to get the one that spans the entire tank. they also sits weirdly on the tank frame, especially for 55 gallon tanks with a central support bar (split top) - the foot sitting on that support has to go on the opposite side of the bar from the side you have the light on, making lids almost impossible on one side if you dont get the light that spans the entire tank. something to keep in mind. I do not have this concern as i intend to grow aquaponics on top of the open side, but that would be a concern for someone with lids on the tank as recommended by the manufacturer.
overall, its useable and pretty OK for the price. id like to see beamswork redesign their feet and it'd knock the competition out of the park. read some reviews about the longevity of the product, so far no issues but ive only had it a day or so. will update accordingly if something goes wrong.
