Brews some tasty coffee. Bought this (34oz, double wall, cork)for a Christmas present for my wife. We use this on the weekend when we have a little more spare time in the morning, though its really not much more time to make this coffee versus conventional pot or Keurig.

We buy whole bean coffee for use with this pour over. Put water in small pot and start to boil on stove while grinding the beans (course to fine seems to work well). Put ground beans directly into filter, no need for additional paper filter (i can see the validity of others' comments where this would remove all the tasty oils and flavors youd otherwise be getting with the use of fresh ground beans and this type of filter). Make an initial pour to slowly add boiling water in circling motion (to cover all grounds uniformly), maybe 1/4 of your total water, then put pot back on stove to keep water as hot as possible. Let ground seep for 30 seconds, allowing it to puff up. Then add remaining water, also in slow, circling motion to allow for maximum grounds exposure to water. Water drips through and is finished 30+ seconds later.

Initially we wondered if this method was that much better than traditional pot or Keurig, and answered our own question when having that type of coffee after we finished the Bodum pot. thats when you really notice how poor traditional pot/Keurig really tastes.

The only negative so far was the packaging it came in - i cant believe it didnt arrive broken. there was a thin cardboard sleeve around the glass, which had slipped off, and some bubble wrap which didnt seem to being too much. Didnt take a star away because this was packaging/shipping, not the product itself.
It's nice!

I love this pot more and more every day. The first week was a test run with it. What I do is 1/4 cup beans and 2 (measuring) cups of water. This gives me two 10oz cups of coffee.

Make sure you use filters with it, this really helps to slow down the drip. Without the paper filter, I thought it dripped way too fast with just the permanent filter. I use #4 unbleached. Run some hot water through the paper and then pour it out before adding the ground beans. (To prevent your coffee from taking on the paper flavor)

I love how it looks on my counter and I can make some pretty good coffee! You don't need to spend a lot to get a great cup of coffee.

With all that being said. It's a glass pot. And you don't have to plug it in. Points to that.
I won't go back to drip coffee (or my French press)

I bought this coffee maker on impulse when the price dropped below $14, and will now never go back to my drip coffee machine or French press. I was skeptical about all the hype around pour-over coffee, but figured the investment was low enough I'd give it a try. Keep in mind that I used to be a person who measured and analyzed and obsessed over coffee details, but long-since gave it up as a waste of time. Seriously, I just want a decent cup of joe to get the day started. This carafe makes good coffee almost idiot-proof, and very easy to clean up.

The filter works well with a variety of grinds and is much easier to clean than my French press (without washing grinds down the sink, too). The neck fits my smallish hands extremely well, and the rubber collar gives it excellent grippines. I don't mind that it's not double-walled, since my coffee doesn't sit long enough to cool. I was also worried that the carafe may not get clean in the dishwasher, but the mouth is wide enough that it seems to be just fine.

Do note that the "stainless steel" filter does have plastic parts. If you're trying to avoid all plastic, this isn't the filter for you. I'm still looking for a truly stainless filter that fits, but will continue to use this one pretty happily.

Also, you might find it useful to know that the OXO On Adjustable Temperature Pour-Over Kettle is perfectly sized to pair with this carafe. I make about a half kettle of water to get about a half carafe of coffee daily, and it works great. (I can't fidget with weights and scales that early in the morning, so I eyeball things.)
Great value, less expensive Chemex replacement
Amazon Customer✓ Verified PurchaseOctober 22, 2017
I got this as an alternative to the Chemex, which became too expensive to replace every time I broke it (which is a lot). The Chemex filters fit great. I was worried that without the groove along the spout to allow air to escape that the coffee wouldn't brew properly, but I only make 1 - 2 cups of coffee in it, and it hasn't been a problem. I suspect if you put a lot of coffee grounds in the filter, it could block the airflow while brewing and cause problems. This isn't an issue for people who plan to use the included filter.

Another small nitpick: the bottom half is globe-shaped, as opposed to the more gently sloped sides of the Chemex, so you have to turn the Bodum all the way upside down to get the last of coffee out. Fortunately, it still seems to come out of the spout, rather than running all around the rim. The globe shape also makes drying it trickier. It has to be 100% upside down to drain fully, unlike the Chemex, which can dry completely while leaning on a draining rack.

It's a great value and works well, with those caveats.
Perfect manual coffee maker
Brian S.✓ Verified PurchaseOctober 2, 2017
I've been making coffee in this pot for a year now and am still delighted by it.

I am a simple coffee drinker (not very fancy) and use pre-ground beans with medium coarseness with an electric kettle that heats water to a perfect 185f. Viola! Perfect coffee every time!

In the summer time I make my coffee the night before for iced coffee, which also comes out perfectly.

The glass & filter both clean up perfectly. I soak them in oxyclean once a month (or so) to get the buildup off, but besides that I just clean them with hot water after each use.

The glass is strong, too! I've dinged it a couple times and thought "there goes my coffee maker" but it always holds up just fine.

All in all, this is a perfect coffee maker for those who don't mind spending ~4 minutes to make their coffee manually and like being able to clean every component thoroughly.
