Pretty and sturdy, but crooked.

I am a writer and blogger so I am on my computer a lot. I get tired of being at my desk all the time, so I like to sit in my recliner or propped up in bed a few times a week and write, but I was noticing that having my laptop on my lap was causing the laptop to heat and also giving me neck pain from looking down, so I decided to invest in a lap desk to make my work more comfortable. I browsed a lot of listings and finally decided on this one because I liked the wood look and the ventilation, and also the drawer feature.
When the lap desk arrived, we had trouble opening it up and extending the legs. It seemed like the desk was assembled and packed before the varnish had time to fully cure, so the moving parts were all stuck together. It took some real tugging and pulling to get the legs to unfold, and then more tugging and prying to get the adjustable parts of the legs freed up so they'd slide. When the sticking broke free it left a few marks on the wood, but nothing major that I can't live with.
Once we had it set up, I immediately noticed the desk was crooked. The hinge screw on one side is place closer to the edge than the other. This allows the legs on one side to angle out more than the other side. The height on the left side is 9 3/8 inch from the floor to the tabletop. On the right side, it's 8 5/8". So about a 1/2" difference. Since the legs are adjustable, I had to extend the "short" side an extra half inch to compensate.
As some people mentioned, there's a slightly weird smell, but it dissipates after 24 hours.
The drawer feature is smaller than I thought it would be. An ink pen fits in there diagonal. The only paper I could fit in there is a post-it pad. All my other mini-tablets were too big.
Overall the desk is pretty and it is sturdy. It's been great for my neck to have my laptop elevated. I have also used it to prop up my phone and tablet so I could read in bed.
I am noticing that the lip that supports the front edge of the laptop is loose. I think it's just set down into the desk with wood pins. It doesn't seemed to be glued or anything, so it comes out really easy. Mildly annoying, but again not critical. I'm giving this three stars because while it could be a 5 star desktop, the manufacturing is just sloppy enough to be annoying.

Great except for the sliding-into-my-lap part.

Overall this stand is great. It's sturdy. It makes working from home in my sweatpants, on my couch, slightly more elegant. The legs stay in place when I raise it. It's also really nice to have a candy drawer by my right hand at all times.
Only downside, for me, is that the strip of wood at the bottom is too short to keep my laptop up if I raise the top part. I use a Lenovo T470S for work, and it has a curved-up part on the bottom that just slides right off. See picture. Thankfully it's just two pegs that hold it on, so I can replace it with something slightly taller, but still frustrating when I'm leading a meeting with my camera on and it slips into my lap and the camera is suddenly focused on my chest and 50 folks, mostly dudes, are suddenly VERY attentive.

Lip not as tall as I need it to be to hold laptop. Not much cheaper than options with fans. Does hold a large 17" laptop, just not super secure because the lip needs to be taller. My wife has a similar design from another company. Her's has locks for the legs on hers (these are loose when they come, but can be tightened to help), a larger lip and a cup holder/phone cutout. I probably should have just gotten that one. The finish also is already rubbed/scratched off, I think this is more due to my use, but could also be because the lip does not secure it well enough. I guess maybe the lighter color is better if you think it might get scratched by your laptop. A thin laptop would work great with this desk, but a fan would be nice. Also the drawer does not support it's own weight when pulled out so it will just flop down if you are not holding it.
Update: Started falling apart after just after a week or two of use. Quality control or manufacturing is off. This product should be taken off Amazon until they get everything together with the the quality of the product.

I learned that the best way to use a "stand-up" desk

After reading a bunch of reviews, I learned that the best way to use a "stand-up" desk ... is to "build up" to standing for longer and longer periods of time, rather than trying to work standing up for long periods of time. And that works for me just fine.
For the price, this is an attractive and quick "stand-up desk" option, that I can carry back and forth from the office to home. And I wanted the right-hand side of the tray to NOT have holes in it (like for ventilation ... or for holding a drinking cup) so that I could use the entire surface area for writing. The tray isn't particularly "heavy-duty," but it is adequate to hold my laptop computer and some papers without concern for falling or breaking.
This laptop tray can certainly also be used as a serving tray for "breakfast in bed."

This is a really great desk. First, it is really sturdy so you don't have to worry about it collapsing yet it is light and portable. The legs are adjustable which makes it great for use in a variety of different settings. The legs fold under for easy storage. I really flower design on top. It allows air to circulate which keeps your computer from over heating. Also the top is adjustable too so you can adjust it to maximize comfort while you work. I'm really happy with purchase and highly recommend!
