Hard to install, easy to use
worfner•September 24, 2018
I had to end up using a professional to install the Nest, as the instructions included did not match my existing set up. Even he had issues (he had one of his own at home and had installed others without problem), so I assume it was a wiring scheme on this 35+ year old house. Once installed, it has worked as promised. Easy to use ECO mode when you're away from home using phone app.
Mostly good

Decent, well-made, functions quite nicely... The screws they include for drywall are a bit silly. Make sure you get some basic anchors before installing.
Also, the first day it was running I left the house for a few hours. Shame home to the house being 103 degrees. apparently, it decided to turn itself off when I wasn't at home, using my phone's location as a gauge. My poor little dogs were totally overheated. You might want to disable this feature right off the bat if you have pets, or at least set it to a point below 100

Not enough to use Nest online compatibility test, call them to make sure
elle•June 28, 2018
STOP, before you buy this. 1.) go to the nest website and take their compatibility test to see if your current HVAC system will work with this nest. Ok, now that you've wasted 15 minutes, 2.) call the nest support # at 855-469-6378 and ask if your HVAC is on their compatibility list. I did step one and it said I was compatible. Installed the nest and it would never cool down in a timely manner like with my other thermostat. Mulitple calls to their support number, the first guy told me my 3.5 year old system was compatible and spent 90 minutes on the phone with me trying to get the stage two cooling working properly. We hung up thinking we had it solved and still took 5 hours to cool 5 degrees. Called back and talked to another agent and he said my unit definitely was incompatible. Spitting nails I was so made.
Don't buy it.

This thermostat had an error that would kill the air conditioning while it was 100 degrees outside. I tried to call the tech line and it said I had to wait for hours. I tried the chat line and it said the same thing. Don't buy it.
Got to have my Nest thermostat, save me thousands over the years when living in MA

Purchased one when first released and recently moved to FL, my home had a computerized HoneyWell but I replaced it with a new Nest. Never had a problem with my original Nest and love the sexy look. The new version, get 3 I believe is nice and bright and the larger text.
