Simple set up. Instructions could be a bit better. Plug your cable in, power it up and then contact your cable company to provide them your new MAC address. Takes very little time once you decipher that aspect.

I bought the modem only so I could set up a mesh system. Most people say it is super easy but that is only if you buy the modem that comes with the router. Basically my router was telling me that the modem wasn't sending a signal and my modem was saying I needed to set up through the Nighthawk portal but unable to use the router. Finally after some hours, much research later, and resetting them both multiple times it just work (going to be honest, I am afraid to unplugging them at this point). Also, you need to know that if you are with Xfinity, you have to call them so they can set up your new modem. It will not work through the app.
Other than that, this modem works great. No more fighting for a connection or dealing with slower speeds at peak hours. Just a consistent, strong connection.

The specs listed do say that it will not work with Spectrum's phone service. When I activated the Nighthawk cable modem CM1200 and my Ooma phone service. I couldn't get internet service. Spectrum's customer service said it they were getting a signal that the modem was working. They were very patient and tried to reboot and other possible cures until I called it a night. Once I got some sleep and thought about the problem I remembered the phone service warning. Yes the light associated with the Ethernet connection for the Ooma was red. Once I disconnected the phone service everything worked as advertised. My last couple of routers have been from Netgear (Nighthawk X6 AC3200 and R6100. To get those routers to work with the Ooma I have had to route everything through the Ooma before the router. It would not consistently keep working if the Ooma was placed downstream of the Netgear device. Right or wrong I was thought my on going problems were caused by updates Since one of the reasons I bought this cable modem was not to have the restrictions imposed by having everything routed through the Ooma I returned the cable modem. My new router (Asus AX6000 dual band RT-AX88U Pro) has no problem dealing with the Ooma being pluged into it. I liked the Netgear routers but they may have been the source of my aggravation.
