It's OK

This is a decent sprayer. I have used many over the years and they stop working after a few years. I decided to stop buying $20 sprayers and get a better, more powerful unit. I have only used it once and here's the lowdown. It's made of plastic, not metal so it can't be left in the sun for long periods, it would never survive concrete contractors who leave them in the back of a truck. The hose is heavy duty but tends to loosen itself as you spray, so look down and check for leaks. The pump itself has a nice thick gasket that really needs to be so tight I thought I might harm it. It kept fizzing and I kept torquing it down. Maybe it will seat better with use, it's a hard gasket. I pumped it up and wanted to spray fertilizer. The spray is not even close to the pictures. It did spray out almost 3 gallons in about 15 minutes, but I had to pump it up every few minutes. I was spraying dilute fish emulsion which is pretty close to water, a tablespoon per gallon. It will be fine for insecticide but I think I could use my drywall hopper to blow out fertilizer and spend a lot less time. It's OK, is it worth $40? Not to me. My old metal sprayers were much more robust.
Quality and Performance

Actually I am kind of proud of myself for getting this Smith Max Contractor sprayer. I have had four sprayers over the last 20 years of gardening and landscape uses. My current need was to spray seal my concrete driveway. I choose the Smith because it gives me a choice of four spray heads. Adjustable won't do it, I wanted a high volume fan spray pattern. Now I have it. But I am totally impressed with the quality and design of this unit. It appears very durable, not cheaply made at all. And one must rate these sprayers by the number of pumps and stroke length to pressurize the tank. This unit is a short stroke and very quickly pressurizes the tank (the pump unit inside the tank is longer than most for this purpose). The shape, well, it is easier to stay upright, as to move around. I will not be lending this unit to my neighbors, they may use the old one. Finally, included is a 45 deg angle nozzle coupling. It gives a variety of comfortable wand positions and e.g. when spraying downward, say on ground or driveway, the spray is perpendicular to the surface, a real plus. Similar for spraying higher up like tall roses and shrubs. I'd buy it again.
My last one cost $40 and lasted 7 years but never worked as good as this one

I use my sprayer a lot so I don't skimp. My last one cost $40 and lasted 7 years but never worked as good as this one. The old one only had one nozzle and no inline filter to keep dirt out of it. This sprayer has five nozzles and a large filter (white filter on left of photo) that is easily removed for cleaning. The handle is large and has plenty of leverage so your hand does not get tired. I have only used two of the nozzles. The yellow one is a narrow spray that is good for limiting your coverage to a small area. That allows me to hit all the weeds in my yard with a gallon of spray. The black plastic conic shaped one is for long range streams. It allows me to reach the top ridge of my roof with a mold treatment while standing on a ladder that just barely reaches my gutters. I am 70 and have no desire to climb onto the roof.
Perfect sprayer for the war on Fire Ants

I had a cheap 7 year old Big Box store sprayer that I had not used in about 5 years. I got it out of storage recently and quickly discovered it would not hold pressure due to the pump cap gasket was deteriorated. I decided to upgrade to a better sprayer instead of trying to find a replacement gasket which the store did no have in stock.
I purchased the 190216 (2 gallon) based on the reviews and high ratings received.
Upon receipt, and before using, I removed all the seals and O rings and applied a liberal coating of silcone grease (Jet-Lube Silicone DM Dielectric Grease). By doing this, the seals and O rings should remain soft and be better protected from the chemicals used in the sprayer. I also disassembled the pump assembly as shown in the operating instructions and found the inner barrell O ring had a very good coating of grease already applied, so none was necessary at this location.
I assembled the sprayer and it works great. Very well made. I plan to rinse and dry the sprayer after using in the hope that it provides me years of
service.
Also, for Fire Ant control, I use and recommend the Acephate 97UP 1lb bag Generic Orthene Insect & Fire Ant Killer also available on Amazon. I mix 1 and 1/2 teaspoons per gallon of water in the sprayer. Spray the ant mounds late in the evening and the next day there will be no more fire ants at that mound.

After only 3 uses of this product, the plunger o-ring deteriorated, making it inoperable. The distributor of this product had no clue, after a 45 min conversation so I emailed the distributor and they told me to call the manufacturer. I have had no reply from the manufacturer. This was a wasted $45.00 purchase. Very frustrated and di ssatisfied!!!!!
