Took a year, but it worked for Bluebirds!
Mila F.✓ Verified PurchaseSeptember 17, 2023
I bought this house last year. I hung it on a solitary dead tree in a large, native-grass backyard. No takers! I was disappointed. This spring I moved it to a different location. Within 2 days of hanging it, I already had a pair checking it out! The female has been bringing in nesting material, so I think this spot is going to work! (If you look closely at the photo you can kind of see the female's beak peeking out.) So first, this house lasted outside all winter; and two, if you don't get any birds, try moving it to a new location the next spring!
Not as good as I expected

At least it has small vent holes at the top sides, but my dislike is about the "door latch," which, when swiveled, does not even reach the front of the birdhouse and therefore is useless. Not just on one of the two birdhouses I purchased, but Both! (Bummer!) I was going to purchase a third one but after the same problem on these two I will look to find another design. I was able to remove the 90 degree bent screw which functions as the door latch by using a pair of small vice grips rotating it counterclockwise and then move it to a location where it will keep the front closed but I should not have to done that! I'll see how easily they screw mount with one hole pre drilled on the top above the roof and another inside the birdhouse and then I'll decide if I'm going to buy a third of this design. They are going under cover on the side of the house where we won't bother them and hopefully predators can't get to the birdhouses.
Squirrels ate through the hole!

I actually loved this bird house. The birds finally discovered it and laid eggs in there. They were feeding their babies and all was wonderful. Until it wasn't. Apparently the wood is soft enough for the squirrels to chew through and enlarge the hole just enough to stick their heads in there and eat the baby birds. So incredibly sad!!! I thought I offered them a safe spot to nest and it was a death trap.
Suggestion - add another layer of wood around the opening, thick enough for squirrels not to chew through. It also chewed through the roof! I would love a replacement with the suggestion incorporated!
Rehousing my "porch birds"

These are very nice well-built birdhouses. I had house finches living on top of outdoor speakers on my porch. Every time I thought to take down the nests, they hatched new chicks! I finally put up these houses and they moved into their "upgraded accommodations". Now we are all happily cohabitating :)
Happy babies

The media could not be loaded. I hung this up about 2.5 months ago and a wren moved right in and now has babies. I hope the house itself holds up for many years.. time will tell.
