We purchased 4 of these to go in front of our house. We placed them between the windows and planted miniature pines that will grow to 5 feet. we took out the plugs and strainer and filled 1/4 with rock for drainage (they to have a single drainage hole) - then filled with a mixture of manure and potting soil. Now we will place lamps on the ground shooting up, either at the tree from the front or behind it. They are really sophisticated and very rugged - and much less expensive than any other options I looked at for this size. The neighbors are impressed. The only thing is that there is a shipping restriction so you can't order more than three at a time - So I ordered two and my husband ordered two - but only three came in boxes - one (missing all its guts - just came with a UPS lable stuck to it.) We should have ordered two to be delivered one day - and two to be delivered the next. I guess the boxes take up so much room on the truck that they have to limit the number to three. They were packed very well - except for the unpacked one, but it wasn't damaged. but missing its screen, etc... Half of our house is in shade - so we will be able to shift these around (with a hand truck) to even out their growth rate. They look fabulous - really. And are well made.

Exactly as described. Handsome planter. Looks like real stone & deceptively lightweight. Also inside, the base is set up to drain excess water away from plant roots & there's even a little plug that can be removed to drain entire container.

I've had two of these for a few days, and these are even nicer than I had hoped. I was afraid that they might look like cheap plastic, but they don't -- the finish is quite good, and from several feet away could pass for metal. They look very nice on my cedar deck. They are self-watering, so the bottom few inches are set aside as a reservoir with a plastic insert above. There is also a plug in the bottom that you could remove, so it would have drainage if you chose to use it as a regular planter. I planted one a few days ago, and the other is still empty. Had some strong winds today and neither budged, and they seem pretty stable, though I can still scoot them around easily enough when full. I'm going to buy some more planters of this type in different sizes.

I'm using it like a regular outdoor pot and it looks so good I added another one to my front stoop. I doubt it will ever break.
