This float is very stable for a larger sized 18 month old and with the sun shade that's build in I feel comfortable having my child in the pool. It states it will hold 44 pounds which is a very big baby! The material isn't cheap it's thick non pvc material that I feel is safe for a child. Most pool floats are thin material that pop so easily this is not.

I blew this thing up to see if my daughter would fit in this for next month at the beach and she fits perfectly. She is 7 months old and weighs about 14lbs. She will be able to fit all summer long and im hoping she will fit next year too. If you have a skinny baby don't worry they won't fall out with this product. It is nicely made and feels very durable. My favorite thing about it is that it has a shade on it because my daughter is very pale with red hair and blue eyes and keeping her out of the sun is important.
