I can't really give this any sort of star rating ...
An Educated Consumer✓ Verified Purchase•August 5, 2017
I can't really give this any sort of star rating since it turns out this model is NOT compatible with Cablevision, at least in NJ, and I couldn't use it. Although the description said it is, and even the original customer service rep at Cablevision said any DOCSIS 3.0 modem is compatible, apparently they're both wrong. Cablevision needs to register the MAC of the modem for it to connect to the network and during that process I found out that the SB6190 is, in fact, not compatible with the network. I was told by the Cablevision tech that the SB6141 and the SB6183 are compatible, even though neither are officially listed by Cablevision on their website. So the SB6190 is on the way back to Amazon and the SB6183 is on the way to me. Kudos to Amazon for making the exchange quick and painless! Both Arris and Cablevision need to get their act together. Before you buy anything, call your internet provider and confirm compatibility with tech support (and not customer service). All this confusion and inconvenience because I wanted to avoid the $5/month modem rental fee Cablevision just instituted...

I would avoid the Arris SURFboard 6190. According to DSLReports and my personal experience, this device suffers from several issues that make playing games impossible and surfing difficult at best. The main issue seems to be that the device just goes into la-la land every couple of seconds making DNS requests fail and packets to be late or dropped. The fault is in the Intel/Puma 6 chipset the modem relies on for operation. There is supposedly a fix in the works but Intel and Arris are taking their time. Do a search on DSLReports for more technical info on what is happening and the status of any fix. Read more here: [...]

Delivers more than promised! Great buy
Honest Opinion (my opinion)✓ Verified Purchase•November 17, 2016
My internet speed is much faster than the available bandwidth just because of the additional channels available. I have used the ISP provided modem (in the past) and now I am using this one. What a vast difference. Not that my ISP provided modem didn't deliver but this one delivers much more than what is promised. Great product and I am loving it so far. Would highly recommend this for all those who need good internet speed.

What do you look for in a cable modem? Reliability and performance. This is what you get from this modem. If you are looking to forgo the rental fees for cable provider hardware, then I recommend taking a shot with this modem. I have Time Warner internet, phone and TV and am using this to replace the internet. If you have Time Warner all you have to do is call them up and give them the MAC address of the modem and they will enable it on their system. If you have phone, you actually "keep" the modem they provided you. The good news is that they will stop charging you the rental fee for the modem if you are only using it for phone (go figure). I am also using my own router for WIFI connected to this modem. So to summarize, I went with this modem to 1) forgo rental charges from my cable provider, 2) to leverage a better performing WIFI router and this has worked great as my service has improved dramatically.
Very happy with this modem

I've had this cable modem for a year now and thought I'd do a review.
I bought this to replace the modem rented to us by Comcast.
The year before,we'd been using the Comcast modem supplied to us years before. It was a very old style modem, single channel that was increasingly dropping our connection. Comcast sent us a replacement on request, and it was quite eye opening to see the bells and whistles the new rental had. Same rental fee. At this point in time because we had been bypassed so long with an older modem, I got interested in seeing what else might be even newer,, which Comcast didn't rent--as well to look into buying my own; to get rid of that rental obligation.
I bought this modem, installed it in a few moments via the Comcast site, no need to call. Suddenly we were getting even faster connection speeds than the new rental had given to us. This modem does run hot, so it's quite warm to the touch. I have it standing next to our Linksys AE6500 router (several years older now) and the two together have given us the most reliable and consistent connections in the decade that I've used Comcast as an ISP.
Very happy with this modem.
