Love it, but can't use it

I love the idea of this modem and speeds obtainable----- BUT currently only works with 3 cable providers. Comcast, Cox, and Time Warner. Per my conversation with Motorola, they sent out the firmware upgrade notice to all cable providers to be able to communicate with this modem, but only 3 have done the firmware upgrade. My cable provider is Suddenlink and I worked over 2 hours to get it working, but in the end it was a no go, as they have not installed the firmware to talk to this modem. I am very sorry to have to return it and by a slower modem. By the way, it automatically senses the network protocol of Docsis 3.0 or 3.1 and no setting is required.
I hate paying extra money to Comcast

I was paying $5 a month to Comcast. I hate paying extra money to Comcast. This modem is Docsis 3.0 and 3.1 compatible so I can hopefully keep it into the future. Setup was easy except I had to call Comcast. Once that was done it was online in minutes.
All is Good!!

Easiest cable modem I've deployed. Disconnected the comcast modem, connected up the MB8600, plugged a laptop into port 1, and within 20 seconds had the Xfinity activation screen (ignoring Motorola's misprint of the proper activation url), plugged in my account number and watched the lights start flashing. Waited about 2 minutes, connected port 1 into my router and rebooted both and all has been well since. Honestly I've seen absolutely no change in downstream nor upstream speeds from my former Comcast generic be-all DOCSIS 3.0 modem. THe MB8500 connected to DOCSIS 3.1 (Boston suburbs) after activating online and I show 25 downstream and 3 upstream bonded channels in the modems "connection" screen (note that there appears to be a firmware bug in that I need to hit the connection tab twice to show the downstream channels as the first time only shows the first channel for some reason). Anyhow all seems to work fine inside my house. The modem shows an IPv6 address assigned by Comcast, but no IPv4 address, which I've validated exists by other means. Don't know if that's another firmware bug or a Comcast issue, but doesn't affect anything I'm doing. The other thing is that I went into my account to see if Comcast was smart enough to actually read the new equipment and stop billing me for their modem - what was I possibly thinking? Well I still show the Arris (Comcast) modem now with an MB8600 model number idenfied and a serial number that doesn't match any device I've ever owned. Oh, and it says "offline" - well that's good. So I called Comcast hoping they wouldn't break anything, asked them to update the mac and serial #'s, stop charging me the rental fee, etc. The tech said the system was properly communicating, that he could see the Motorola modem, yes it was in DOCSIS 3.1 mode, it had the proper/latest firmware, was properly bonded, etc. and that he would change the info and get it all sorted out in their system. Of course he calls back 15 minutes later to verify that the serial number I provided him was correct as their system kept over-writing it and just wanted to verify. Well, that was yesterday, Comcast devices screen still shows an Arris modem with an unidentified serial number as offline, and my Motorola MB8600 continues to provide speeds consistent with my prior modem, albeit at no monthly rental (and I neglected to mention in both cases about 20% higher speeds than what the Comcast plan I subscribe to is supposed to provide). So all is good, I like the Motorola MB8600 - it looks fine in my rack, is smaller than the Arris, seems to run cooler, is doing what i purchased it to do, and Amazon of course delivered in its very consistent manner as committed in their 2-day Prime shipping at a price I couldn't beat elsewhere. As for Comcast, well, some really great people working for a company that outgrew many of its systems and policies perhaps, but frankly as easy as it to bash cable companies, utilities, airlines, etc, I'm not smart enough to fix it, so we just make the best of it and continue to work around their challenges. This modem is one way to avoid their monthly ransom rental fees, and have a decent expectation of a great ROI given the latest technology.
Works great!
