An Excellent Little Vacuum for the Price!
Troy Y.✓ Verified PurchaseJanuary 13, 2024
This is a review for the BISSELL Zing Lightweight, Bagless Canister Vacuum, 2156A,Black/Citrus Lime, (there were multiple models available on this page at the time of review)

Overview: I am shocked at how powerfully strong the suction for this tiny little cheap vacuum is. There is a lot to love and a few sacrifices for the price. I have used it for one full cleaning of my house and am really impressed. For this very low price of $80, this little vacuum is a great choice, especially if you have only hard floors. I have back and heart problems that do not allow me to bend over - this vacuum is great for me because the power/cord buttons are used with your foot, and the cord is retractable so you don't have to do it yourself.

Background:
We have a 2 story home with 2 dogs and a cat. We have 95% hard floors downstairs and 90% carpet upstairs. I was tired of lugging our very heavy and very unwieldy Shark vacuum up and down the stairs between floors. We have a problem with pet hair and dust, but since downstairs is mostly hard floors and 4 out of 5 times I vacuumed was downstairs, I decided to get a smaller vacuum. Because this vacuum doesn't have a power carpet attachment, I ordered a suction powered version from a third party to hopefully deal with the pet hair on the area rugs we have downstairs. The rest of the downstairs I will use the hard floor attachment.

Pros:
- This thing is incredibly lightweight and easy to maneuver. I am constantly surprised at how well it gets around and how little effort I have to put into moving or pulling it around.
- The suction is much stronger than my $350 Shark! I can't believe it is so powerful and so small and cheap. I am skeptical it will stay this powerful over time, and I will update my review later if I notice it isn't not as strong as new.
- Incredibly low profile - The included floor attachment is very low profile and it allows me to get under ALL of my furniture significantly farther than any other vacuum I've used. This is very useful.
- The retractable power cord is a miracle. One of the things we struggle with constantly on our Shark is a tangled power cord - and it has to be wrapped up manually every time we're done.
- It maneuvers well - the big wheels and "pull around" design really helps, especially for those who are disabled.
- The unpowered floor attachment that comes included is surprisingly good at getting pet hair off the carpet compared to my old "hard floor" attachments. I was a surprised - it does take slightly more effort (more passes) because it's unpowered but the brush on the bottom does work. I almost think it might work better because the pile of the carpet is pulled up more than the rotating powered brush on my Shark does.
- Accepts universal and other standard attachment sizes - one of the cardinal sins of my Shark that I've always hated/regretted is that it uses proprietary attachment connections so you can't really use non-Shark brand attachments with it. This vacuum accepts the normal size and I can use most of my old accessories with it, making up for the lack of accessories with the Zing.
- The little edge brush accessory is tiny - and that's good! It really makes cleaning the baseboards in my house easier because it's smaller.

Cons: There are some cons, which I can forgive at only $80. That price for a good, usable vacuum is unheard of. I just want to give an honest review, so I mention them here - but they are not really strong complaints, just things I want to mention.

- Cheap hose, wand. The hose and wand are very cheap materials and are rather flimsy for what you normally get with a vacuum. I imagine eventually it will crack. I am OK with this as I have a horde of cannibalized vacuum parts from the past so I have sturdy wand extensions. The hose connection where the wand connects is also cheap and flexible so it doesn't hold the wand very well and it easily falls off. It's also made of a shiny/glossy plastic which seems to create static electricity charge and attracts pet hair while vacuuming - I have to clean it periodically.
- I wish the power cord was longer. My Shark's power cord is probably double the length. It's fine and usable, I just have to change outlets more often.
- It's probably only good for households that have primarily hard floors. Although I was impressed with how well it cleans our rugs, I don't think it's good enough for regular cleaning without a powered brush attachment.

Overall, I highly recommend this vacuum, especially at this price.
I've created a monster!

I got this primarily to vacuum my dogs. That's right - I have two very large, very shedding dogs. A first gen Labradoodle - 1st gen don't always get the poodle coat. Mine didn't. He sheds. A LOT. I know people say their dogs shed, but seriously, this guy takes it to a whole new level. The other dog is a Rottweiler, who also sheds, but it's a "normal" amount.

I have a robot vacuum, but it cannot cope with the volume of dog hair even running daily. The bin is always full. If I'm home when it runs I empty it twice while it's running. This is currently 4 days a week. The other three it gets emptied daily.

Neither of our dogs are really afraid of the vacuum (before I had the robot one) so I figured it wouldn't be a stretch to get them acclimated to being vacuumed. So I ordered this and an attachment specifically designed to brush/vac a dog. The attachment was a waste. In the end I use the hose of this vacuum, without an attachment. Both dogs love it.

However, the Rottie, she's obsessed. She begins barking excitedly as soon as I turn the vacuum on. I do use this to vacuum surfaces and corners where the robot can't quite manage - shelves, entertainment center, couches, corners, etc. My Rottie can't wait till it's her turn. And even when I'm done with her and move on the the non-Doodle Doodle, she is still trying to get in on the action. Bot dogs mad the "oh that feels SO good" face - seems to me it scratches the itch that they can never reach!

Now - how does this little guy perform as an actual vacuum as opposed to a dog grooming implement? Surprisingly well! It has really powerful suction. Works great on all the items I mentioned. I haven't used it with the floor attachment but I can imagine that the folks who complain about it on carpet didn't read the description very well - there is no powered brush attachment and the suction is so powerful that I wouldn't even try to use it on carpet except with the crevice tool around baseboards, corners etc - I have all hard surface floors so this won't ever be something I do. I also can't speak to the length of the extension for the floor tool because I haven't used it - our robot vac does that job. The extensions do look short though so I can't imagine trying to vacuum my whole house with this - but I can see using them to take out cobwebs!

As a lightweight, powerful hard floor vacuum, being used for everything BUT the bulk of the floor, I give this high marks. As a dog-grooming device I'm thrilled - the amount of fur and (shudder) dander that I dumped from the bin was a real eye-opener - and that's before I got to tapping out the filter (OMG that was disgusting!). I would not use this on small dogs.... the suction is powerful enough that you could probably lift a dog of 10lbs or less off the floor. But for my large dogs (+/-100lbs each), it's amazing. They love it, it gets the shed and hopefully it'll help cut down on the wear on our robot vac. It's also small enough that it tucks into our already packed hall closet easily. It rolls smoothly on the floor and even when I took it all over it didn't get tangled in it's cord. I also love that the cord retracts into the body of the machine. Between this and the robot vac, I will likely never use our expensive water basin vacuum again!

If you're looking for something to get corners, cobwebs; to vacuum furniture and even large dogs, I don't think you can go wrong with this... just be prepared for your dog to become an addict.
On 2nd & LOVE! (Update:Oops! 1st still working!!)

Lite weight, easy to maneuvers & super easy to clean with, which of course (best part) keeps it from retaining household odors. Found it great as a general dusting aid (book shelves, large toys, interior of baskets etc), sweep-vacuuming wood floors and getting those crevices in furniture and hard to reach under furniture dust bunny hide outs. It got used irregularly over the last 4 years (2-5Xper month). We have mostly wood floors but found it worked just fine on the rugs we have. Loved it so much that we bought a new one after our 1st one, the green Bissel, bought last April 2020 (3years 11months
ago), stopped working.
My husband plans to tinker with the old one in hopes of getting it running again. We felt the $17.5 a year (or $69)we spent on it was totally worth it, even if we can't get going again. The newer Bissel is now about $10 more, so if it lasts us 4 years as well, it's still a good price at $20 per year.
Just a great all around lil vacuum that even my kids find easy to use ! :0)

Update:
Discovered our first Bissel was still working about an hour after purchasing our 2nd! We had apparently tripped our basement sockets due to another plug going at the same time, go me! Anyhow, we cancelled our 2nd Bissel purchase for now though if we ever need to we'd still buy it again!
New note on Filter: The filter has been super easy to clean. I suspect, that as long as I keep up my cleaning routine (after every other major use) the 2 extra filters I bought won't ever be used. I use soapy water and the hot kitchen water with medium-hard nozzle spray to get in-between grooves of filter for initial cleaning and one final rinse with kettle boiled water. Then I let them air dry. I've used very diluted Clorox for a mid cleaning (after soapy water and before hot boiled water) to rid odor buildup about every 2nd or 3rd time I clean the filter. Generally taken Less than 15 minutes.
Great little vacuum cleaner!

I looked for a basic canister vacuum cleaner for months, and was seriously considering buying a Miele model that cost around $800! I even visited a retail vacuum store and looked at the Miele vacuums there. They were very expensive. I'm sure they are well made and probably will last 20 years, but I didn't want to spend that kind of money for a vacuum for my small apartment. So, after much looking on Amazon and reading descriptions and reviews including detailed reviews by individuals who specialize in reviewing vacuum cleaners and comparing similar models, I settled on the Bissell Zing because the price was so affordable: I paid around $68 for this unit.

The suction is excellent. The hose is made of lightweight plastic: quite different from the vacuum cleaners of years past. The attachments are very basic. I have a 50+ year old Montgomery Ward canister that has a number of attachments that fit the standard diameter wand that the Zing has. The extendable wand is a bit on the short side. My solution is to use one section of the old wand from the Ward's canister vacuum, and I can adjust the length on the Bissell wand to whatever length I desire. I purchased an Easy Spares Turbo Floor Brush to use on carpet. That affordable air-powered unit really enhances the usefulness of this economical vacuum.

All in all this is a great little vacuum cleaner that won't cost you an arm and a leg. If you have a house that you vacuum regularly, you probably will want to consider a larger vacuum cleaner. But if you only have a small home or apartment, this model is a good solution at a great price.

I suggest purchasing some micro filtration bags for the Zing. You will probably not find them on Amazon. Search online. These bags will filter out 99.7% of microscopic particles and allergens.
Light, powerful and cheap.

I gave my old $80 Eureka vacuum to my son for his apartment. I had used it for years. It worked well but was extremely loud. I replaced it with a more expensive Kenmore canister vac, only to discover that it's great for rugs but the canister and wand are so heavy, it's not as good for shelves, cobwebs, stairs etc. It exacerbates an old shoulder injury, LOL. After reading reviews, I purchased this Bissell.

PROS: strong suction, no bags to worry about, very light to carry; CONS: cheap hose and wand material, no attachment caddy so you have to drag the attachments around in your pocket or something, canister gets pretty dirty obviously and the filter clogs up fast with pet hair. As long as you stay on top of the last problem, it's not a big deal. I'm happy I bought it to complement the Kenmore. In fact, I'd say I use it more. It's a great, powerful little vacuum for the money with just a couple of drawbacks.
